Tiny Engines + Tigers Jaw = 7 inches of Awesome

Posted under Press Releases by bearchuck on June 10th, 2009

It recently occurred to me that amidst all the excitement surrounding Tiny Engines‘ decision to partner with the amazing Tigers Jaw – between the hustle, bustle and shenanigans involved in releasing records – we completely forgot to make any sort of formal declaration regarding the label’s latest vinyl endeavor. In fact, it totally just dawned on me that aside from a handful of people I’ve casually mentioned it to, no one even knows about our newest, sweetest little slab of 7-inch awesomeness, Spirit Desire.

On that note, Tiny Engines is officially confirming that it will release Spirit Desire, the latest 7-inch from Scranton, PA’s Tigers Jaw.

Furthermore, Tiny Engines would like to make a second, equally momentous announcement: Spirit Desire is now available for pre-order. To procure your copy, go here.

There – I’m sure the Blogosphere is blowing the hell up right about now.

Recorded by Vince Ratti (Circa Survive, None More Black, Jena Berlin), Spirit Desire keeps with Tigers Jaw’s nostalgic yet completely fresh indie-rock-cum-pop-punk M.O., but injects even more tension, energy and undeniable harmonies into the mix. The title track is the darkest, most foreboding they’ve ever written; still, it’s probably the catchiest as well. It’s this mash-up of styles and contrasts that make the band so damn unforgettable.

Check it out for yourself though – the song is currently streaming on Tigers Jaw’s Myspace page, as well as TinyEngines.net

We’re pressing 450 7-inches (300 yellow / 150 purple) which will contain three songs. However, each copy will also include a free mp3 download card which features a bonus fourth track. Release date is TBD (probably late August) but we should be shipping these out in mid-July. Likewise, a digital version of Spirit Desire (featuring all four songs) will be available from iTunes and other online retailers around the same time.

Additionally, everyone who pre-orders a record will automatically be entered to win a test pressing of both Spirit Desire and Gasp Asp, Tiny Engines’ inaugural release from Look Mexico.

Tigers Jaw will be leaving for a short tour of the East Coast in support of the release beginning on July 10th. If all goes to plan, they should have copies of the 7-inch with them. If you’d like to speak with the band or attend a show, drop me a line here.

In related news, Tigers Jaw recently signed with the up-and-coming Run For Cover. The Boston-based label will be releasing the band’s next full-length and is currently carrying copies of Tigers Jaw’s incredible 2008 Self-Titled record as well. If you’re not familiar with the album, I highly recommend that you pick it up. Definitely one of our favorites from last year.

Listen to “I Saw Water” and “Arms Across America” (Free mp3s!)

    - Raw and rough power pop that borders both pop punk and emo without ever crossing either line…a great release. - Can You See The Sunset?
    - It’s not often you hear a band capable of interpreting the anxiety of maturity with the clear-headed sentiment of older bands. - 30music
    - Tigers Jaw combines equal parts indie sheen, pop smarts, and punk grit to make a cohesive whole. - DryveTymeOnlyne
    - One the best new bands to emerge this year for sure. Every song feels like an exercise in heartbreak. - What We Hate
    - Chock full of addictive songs with jammin guitars, crashing cymbals, and beautiful vocal melodies. - Pastepunk
    - Top drawer indie rock type stuff with some real oomph! - Suspect Device
    - There’s no excuse for missing out on this band! - Altsounds
