Recommended for fans of Dinosaur Jr, Sebadoh, Sonic Youth and Chavez, the five-song effort will be issued on digital and 10″ formats, with the latter being limited to 500 on black (100) and Transparent w/ black center (400) colorways. Vinyl Pre-orders are shipping now and the band is playing its official release show this Friday in its hometown of New Orleans.
Sporting a moniker that gives the sense of barren clay getting kicked up by a demonstrative sun somewhere in America’s southwest, New Orleans fuzz-pop trio Heat Dust’s angular roots actually spread to the far reaches of both coasts. The Pacific Northwest’s bouncy feedback (a la Mudhoney and early Nirvana) is well-represented, as is the mid-90’s, art-laden mischief from Massachusetts and New York (Sonic Youth, Chavez). Yet, for three guys who only started collaborating just over a year ago, drummer/singer Clayton Hunt, guitarist/singer Jasper den Hartigh and bassist Shawn Tabor come off like scholars of their own genre, knowing when to lay low, when to crush it, and how the in-between plays a role that’s equally important.
Stay tuned for upcoming Heat Dust news, including a winter tour in support of the new EP. Follow the band and label on Facebook here and here. You can also follow Texas Is Funny on Twitter for daily updates.
