SLEEP BELLUM SONNO and RAPID CITIES – On Tour
    ——————————————————————————–

    * Two-week East Coast tour begins today (March 09 – 27)
    * Sleep Bellum Sonno’s Judge Us By How We Lived Our Lives … available now
    * Rapid Cities’ Machinery Saints available now

    ——————————————————————————–

Long Island, NY’s Sleep Bellum Sonno and New Brunswick, NJ’s Rapid Cities are set to embark on an East Coast tour together starting today. The two bands are once again playing shows in support of their 2009 full-length albums, Judge Us By How We Lived Our Lives, Not By How We Made Our Living and Machinery Saints, respectively.

The bands will play together from March 9th through the 20th, with Sleep Bellum Sonno continuing on for five more shows.

Sleep Bellum Sonno have composed an ambitious, conceptual record that not only stretches the limits of the artist, but of the listener as well. Recorded live, the album tells the tale of twelve characters who all intertwine into one larger story of a husband / father leaving his wife and two sons behind. To say that Sleep Bellum Sonno’s Judge Us By How We Lived Our Lives, Not By How We Made Our Living is a challenging listen might be an understatement. But for those willing to indulge themselves the riches buried within are plenty.

Listen to “A House Of Spades Stands No Chance Against The Wind (Gambler)” (Free mp3)

Deliberately evoking familiar patterns of hardcore and punk rock tradition, and spitting it out with a conscious, yet subtle control of the unconventional and the dissonant, Rapid Cities accepts the challenge to take the step forward. The resulting art of the band’s debut, Machinery Saints, observes what is pleasurable about today’s living, as well as what is mundane. Rapid Cities are both a breath of fresh air as well as an assurance that truly “progressive” yet enjoyable music is still possible.

Listen to “In My Mind” (Free mp3)

TOPSHELF / CLICKPOP To Release ROOFTOPS Debut Full-Length
    ——————————————————————————–

    * Vinyl pre-orders start April 1st from Topshelf Records
    * CD to be released on Clickpop Records
    * US Tour (Mar 12 – Apr 11)

    ——————————————————————————–

Topshelf Records and Clickpop Records are both thrilled to announce the release of A Forest Of Polarity, the debut album from Bellingham, Washington’s Rooftops.

Clickpop will release the CD while Topshelf will be handling the vinyl. All formats will hit stores around the globe on May 18th, 2010, but you’ll be able to Pre-Order the LP from Topshelf beginning on April 1st.

Rooftops take its brand of intricate math pop and layer it generously with acoustic guitars, horns, strings and percussion. The resulting arrangements create an impressive sound uniting math rock and post rock into something bold, new and exciting. The band adds vocals to the mix only sparingly but at brilliantly timed intervals for maximum effect. It is the bold, unbridled enthusiasm of math rock harnessed only by the restraints and subtle nuances of post rock. A Forest Of Polarity is the sound of two becoming one. Can you hear it?

The band is streaming songs from A Forest Of Polarity on its Myspace page. Additionally, you can download an mp3 for the song “Raft Easily” here.

Beginning next Friday, Rooftops will embark on a month-long trek across the US with The Americas. If you’d like to attend or speak with the band, drop me a line here.

TINY ENGINES To Release EVERYONE EVERYWHERE LP
    ——————————————————-

    * Pre-order Self-Titled 12″ (out 05/04/10)
    * Band now streaming two brand new songs
    * Download 2009 debut 7″ for FREE @ If You Make It

    ——————————————————-

Tiny Engines is pleased to announce that it will release the Self-Titled debut full-length from Philadelphia’s Everyone Everywhere.

The album, which will be released in vinyl and digital formats on May 04, 2010, is now up for pre-order from the label. Tiny Engines will press 500 12-inches on maroon and off-white colorways (350 / 150). To secure a copy of this amazing record, go here.

The band is currently streaming two brand new songs, “Tiny Boat” and “Blown Up Grown Up,” on its Myspace page.

Everyone Everywhere’s eponymous debut builds on the rock-solid foundation laid down on last year’s dynamic 7″, A Lot Of Weird People Standing Around, and further pushes the band’s sonic palette in exciting new directions at every turn. Sure, those lovely Promise Ring vibes remain – not to mention hints of Braid’s twisting-yet-tuneful angularity, the crackling anti-anthems of indie heroes Superchunk and Piebald’s off-kilter sense of melody – but the Philly four piece has honed its songwriting chops, dialed in its amps and seriously upped the ante with this emotionally taut ten-song affair.

On a related note, Everyone Everywhere and Evil Weevil Records, the label responsible for the 7″ version of A Lot Of Weird People Standing Around, have teamed up with the awesome folks at If You Make It to give away a digital copy of the 4-song effort. To download this sweet little release, completely free from financial obligation, go here.

COMMUNIPAW – New Full-Length Available for Free Download
    ——————————————————————————–

    * Download the Self-Titled Debut at Sound As Language
    * CD available for stream and purchase

    ——————————————————————————–

New Brunswick, NJ’s Communipaw and South Carolina-based music blog Sound As Language are excited to announce that the band’s Self-Titled debut full-length is now available for full Free Download on the site.

The record is the first in a new feature for the blog where albums and EPs of different genres will be made available for free with direct permission from the artist. The only criteria is that music be quality and of course, independent.

Led by singer/songwriter Brian Bond, Communipaw mixes its love of soaring, anthemic indie rock with a classic songwriting sensibility and a slice of alt-country. Along the way, the band has crafted a dynamic brand of indie-pop, building a reputation for originality in its hometown scene. This Self-Titled recording morphed into a year long adventure that brought the band to eight different studio spaces and inspired eleven new songs, experimentation, revision and reinvention along every step of the way. The resulting Self-Titled record illustrates at once a lush synthesis of the group’s diverse influences – from shoegaze to surf rock and everything in between – and a testament to the maturity of the band’s songwriting.

    - Take Over (mp3)
    - 2:23 (mp3)

Communipaw plans to tour the US extensively this summer. Until then go pick up the album for free!

IT’S A KING THING – New Full-Length Available for Free Download
    ——————————————————————————–

    * Stream or download Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo now
    * Videos for each song upcoming

    ——————————————————————————–

From the Haddons, the Hills and the Heights of suburban New Jersey comes It’s A King Thing – A band for boys and girls, late bloomers, nose pickers, pussies and procrastinators.

For the better part of 2009, It’s A King Thing has been recording it’s 2nd full-length, Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo, a record which expertly verse-chorus-verses its way into a 12 song / 36 minute concoction of “I can’t believe my mom just caught me masturbating” and winsome anti-folk vignettes.

Basically, these songs can beat up your band’s songs.

It’s A King Thing has matured into a indie power pop behemoth and Buffalo… is its crowning achievement. Led by singer / songwriter / smartass Brian Mietz and featuring former members of the criminally underrated Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A Start, It’s A King Thing should find fans of the first two Weezer albums, The Lemonheads, Nada Surf and Guided By Voices drooling uncontrollably. You can stream the entire album here, and like all of the band’s previous material, Buffalo … is available for FREE DOWNLOAD!

Trying to pick “singles” off Buffalo … is like trying to determine which hot girl is the hottest. Nevertheless, we chose “Old Hobbies” and “Mush Mouth” (free mp3s) for your ear pleasure.

The band also has the ambitious plan to shoot a video for each song on Buffalo…. The results are sure to be humourous. In fact, three are already complete and you can check those out here. Schweet!

“If you are bummed on the last four Weezer records (however many they have put out since Pinkerton that is), just know there are bands like It’s A King Thing still out there still sticking it to the man.” – Sound As Language

Nice Post Harbor Review in Suspect Device UK

POST HARBOR  ”They Can’t Hurt You If You Don’t Believe In Them” CD Burning Building

These guys are doing the post rock/emo thing in a similar vein to Elliott and Mineral, a genre you don’t seem to hear a lot of these days?, or maybe that’s just me not looking in the right places. Anyway, this made for a right royal good listen, in a nice relaxing, chilling out kind of way, chillaxing if you will. Long songs with all sorts of different instrumentation going on in various places, and huge long instrumental passages too, which had me wondering what the vocalist does at these points, cause according to the promo sheet he’s just “vocals”, maybe I’m over thinking this? Very atmospheric stuff with sea sounds and the like adding to the ambiance, and songs that tend to ebb and flow. The promo says these guys took a full year out to write and record this album and it shows I think, they could have been on Deep Elm Records several years ago is the feeling I get.

Great Communipaw Review in Suspect Device UK

    COMMUNIPAW S/T CD Self-Released

Now this I like! Great Indie Rock stuff with bits of Americana and a smidgen of shoegaze in there too in places, and plenty of plain and simple ROCK!, but all told just great songs played in a great way! The singer/guitarist, Brian Bond, I had heard of cause I downloaded a demo of his solo work which I liked, and so I was excited when I read the promo and found he was in the band, and it does not disappoint. It says on the bumph that these guys went into the studio to record a follow up EP to their first release but got a bit carried away and ended up with an album, good work I say. It sounds like they’ve really taken their time and got things just right and exactly as they wanted them before releasing this, adding all sorts of crazy instruments to get the sound they were after, but keeping it nice and simple in places too. 12 tracks and the album tends to get better as it goes on I think, though that might change the more I listen, which I will be doing, oh yes!

POST HARBOR – Pre-Order New CD – They Can’t Hurt You If You Don’t Believe In Them
    —————————————————————————————-

    * Record release show tonight / March West Coast tour
    * Album streaming on Burning Building Recordings
    * Video for “Shirakashi”

    —————————————————————————————-

Tonight, Post Harbor celebrates the release of its sophomore full-length, They Can’t Hurt You If You Don’t Believe In Them, with a record release show at Neumo’s in its hometown of Seattle. The album will be released on February 23rd by Burning Building Recordings but is available for pre-order starting today.

The Seattle-based label is now streaming the album in its entirety and you can also download a free mp3 for the song “Caves, Hollow Trees And Other Dwellings.” Additionally, a video for “Shirakashi” has been posted on Youtube.

Already grabbing headlines with a unique, vocally dynamic take on the post-rock formula, fans of Mogwai, Sigur Ros, Explosions In The Sky and Sunny Day Real Estate should take note. Post Harbor not only blurs the line between genres, it transcend the boundaries, pushing limits with ambitious arrangements and gorgeously complex musical landscapes. Expansive and reflective without compromising its focused precision, Post Harbor has the ability to transport the listener to another time and place. The ethereal vocals of Anthony Carlucci tremble with restrained emotion and act as yet another instrument in this expansive orchestra of sounds. With each listen, They Can’t Hurt You If You Don’t Believe In Them slowly reveals layer upon intricate layer, and the results are often majestic.

Following its record release show tonight, Post Harbor will embark on a West Coast tour in March. If you’d like to attend or speak with the band, drop me a line here.

Pianos Become The Teeth score 4/5 from Alternative Press

Pianos Become The Teeth have quietly refined their craft over the last few years into an incredibly cathartic and sporadically chilling mode. Their screamo peers–past or present–should be more than envious.

Topshelf Records (Defeater, My Heart To Joy) is ecstatic to officially unleash Pianos Become The Teeth’s sophomore album, Old Pride, into the world today. The full-length has been met with high praise and is now available in all its glory from Top Shelf or digitally from Amazon and iTunes.

Additionally, you can now stream the entire record at Punknews.org. Old Pride’s first track, “Filial,” is still available for free download as well.

Screamo is dead. Or at least that is what some people say. However, Pianos Become The Teeth begs to differ. The band turns the oversaturated and overproduced genre upside down with an album so powerful and so brave it can only be compared to the legends that preceded it. Mixing elements of hardcore, post rock and screamo, Old Pride breathes new life into a once decaying scene. Pianos Become The Teeth has a melodic yet uncompromising sound that showcases a diverse set of influences. Brimming with sincerity and brandishing an experimental ambiance, the band is pushing beyond the boundaries of a stale genre with poetic lyrics and an impassioned delivery. Screamo is dead? The skeptics might want to listen to Old Pride before making such bold proclamations.

“Euphoric, exhilarating and utterly discordant … the kind of band that allows you to feel young, nervous and excited about music again. Powerful, majestic, important and truly fantastic from start to finish.” – Rock Sound
“Pianos Become The Teeth skillfully works elegant, lush instrumentation while pushing and pulling between ebullient, manic intensity that shrieks and screams with conviction and emotive uproaring.” – Go211.com
“An eight song powerhouse of unabashed hardcore and screamo intertwined with building crescendos and post-rock interludes … unique as it is impressively devastating.” – Bedwetting Cosmonaut
“Pianos Become the Teeth excel at constructing artfully elegant and resplendent instrumental passages, before decimating them with torturously emotional screamed catharsis.” – Strange Glue

    Sweet Pianos Write Up!

Posted under News by will on January 14th, 2010. Leave a Comment »

Sweet Pianos Become The Teeth write up in the Free Times for their show in Columbia, SC. Thanks Bryan!

Pianos Become the Teeth — Baltimore quintet Pianos Become the Teeth arrives at semi-secret underground venue The House of Hardcore brandishing not only a wiry and frantic brand of post-hardcore, but also wielding its just-released sophomore LP, Old Pride. In this band, the spirit of emotionally charged late-‘90s post-hardcore not only lives, but grows. The band’s two guitarists wind textured chords and snaking melodic lines over a bruising rhythm section and desperately screamed vocals that seem to be torn from much deeper than the throat and fall into some kind of melody as if by accident. A frequent critique of emotional hardcore  — OK, emo — is that it never grows up. Pianos Become the Teeth just proves that it never gets old.
