JUL 14 – Philadelphia, PA @ 48th & Trinity Place w/ Everyone Everywhere, Monitors, Shat Shorts

JUL 23 – Chicago, IL @ Waterworks w/ Coping, The Fordists, Snow What, Damp Hay
JUL 24 – Akron, Ohio @ It’s A Kling Thing w/ Annabel, White Mage, The Ground Is Lava

From, math-y emo, post-punk, noise-pop, grungy 90′s indie rock and even the Dischord-styled hardcore of Monument’s D.C. home, Goes Canoeing is as loose and raw as it is infectious and intricately layered. Recorded by Algernon Cadwallader’s Joe Reinhart, these 10 songs are bursting with acrobatic guitars, spirited gang vocals and uncommonly catchy melodies, all bolstered by the band’s creativity and enthusiasm. Goes Canoeing is filled with wonderfully skewed, raucous anti-anthems for emo, indie, punk and hardcore kids alike. The first great, essential release of 2011.

Broadcaster – Release New EP For Free Download

BROADCASTER – Release Joyride EP / Free Download
——————————————————————————————————

* Joyride EP available for free @ Bandcamp
* Artwork and Track Listing released
* Band recording new songs with J. Robbins

——————————————————————————————————

Long Island, NY indie trio Broadcaster have digitally released their new EP, Joyride, for free download on Bandcamp.

Broadcaster originally began in the Spring of 2010 as a “less business, more fun” side-project devoted to playing a handful of 90′s covers at local shows. However, the band quickly blossomed into something more substantial as they gained positive feedback for their original material. It is easy to see why with the band’s latest release, the digital EP, entitled Joyride. These four songs will make any fan of 90′s indie/alt rock swoon.

Listen to “Vacation Days” (mp3) as well as an exclusive acoustic version of “All Your Friends” here.

Recorded in the band’s Long Island practice space, Joyride is exactly as it sounds. The EP is a jaunty fusion of punk and indie rock, eluding somewhat to the early days of The Get Up Kids and Nada Surf but with the flare of bands like Cheap Girls and The Thermals as well. Broadcaster’s Joyride joyfully relives the golden days of the 90′s in 2011.

Broadcaster are headed back into the studio this weekend to record new songs with the legendary J. Robbins. More news to come!

BLACK NUMBERS To Release LUTHER 12″
——————————————————————————————————

* Siblings & Sevens 12″ out August 16, 2011
* Artwork and Track Listing released
* First single streaming exclusively @ Absolute Punk

——————————————————————————————————

Philadelphia, PA’s Luther has officially joined Black Numbers (Grey Area, Go Rydell, Banquets) and will release a 12″ EP, Siblings & Sevens, with the New Jersey label on August 16, 2011.

You can check out the exclusive stream for “The Communion” from Siblings & Sevens on Absolute Punk now.

Forming in late 2010 Luther bring back memories of a simpler and more organic time in rock music. While making no attempts to hide their punk rock roots Luther replace the overt aggression flooding the current world of punk with passion and a sincere sense of urgency. Living in South Philadelphia, Luther’s exposure to the city’s diverse music scene creates a varied sound that results in a refreshing mixture of indie, punk rock, post-hardcore and pop. Luther’s brand of songwriting comes with a natural nervousness that is layered with harmonies and an abstract approach to lyrics, all on top of a driving and unified rhythm section. Coming out swinging, Luther have played over 30 shows, an east coast tour, and recorded a 12 inch and a 7 inch with producer Jeff Zeigler (Kurt Vile, The War on Drugs) within a four month period.

A complete track listing for Siblings & Sevens is below. Stay tuned for pressing / pre-order info and new exclusive song streams, as well as plenty more news from Luther and Black Numbers!

Cattle Drums – On Tour

CATTLE DRUMS – Summer Tour Announced
——————————————————————————————————

* Summer Tour (7/8 – 8/5)
* The Boy Kisser Sessions + 3 still available for free download on Bandcamp
* Sample “Who Punched Pat Moore’s Face” from RCRD LBL
* Band recording debut LP in August

——————————————————————————————————

Cattle Drums (Oneonta, NY) are heading out for a summer tour in support of the band’s debut, The Boy Kisser Sessions + 3, on Tiny Engines (Tigers Jaw, CSTVT, Look Mexico). After the summer tour, Cattle Drums will head into the studio to record their debut LP. An early 2012 release date is tentatively scheduled for the LP on Tiny Engines.

The Boy Kisser Sessions + 3 is an eight song collection that puts together the original debut of the band with three newer tracks that were recorded near the end of 2010. The EP was digitally released in February on Tiny Engines and can be downloaded for FREE. Of course you can still download via iTunes as well.

You can sample the track “Who Punched Pat Moore’s Face” on RCRD LBL. Additionally, you can listen to “Sluts And Coconuts” from The Boy Kisser Sessions + 3 (mp3)

Remember when indie music was wild and unpredictable? Remember when bands were hard to pigeonhole into neat little sub-genres? Well, Cattle Drums will remind you if you have forgotten. Hailing from upstate NY, you might shrug your shoulders at a band named Cattle Drums but you would be remiss by doing so. Mixing post-punk, emo/hardcore, shards of math rock and even traces of dark Americana, Cattle Drums distinguish themselves as purveyors of a sound not yet recognizable to our pampered, innocent ears. Lyrically ambiguous and instrumentally ambitious with harsh, aggressive tones, Cattle Drums truly are a wild awakening for the senses. These songs truly defy classification and open the listener up to create their own unique interpretation of the Cattle Drums sound. Need a shock to the system to break you from the mundane of the daily grind? Delve into the madness of the Cattle Drums experience and witness a band operating only by their keen sense of artistic expression. Eccentric and chaotic yet always melodic and intoxicating, Cattle Drums are kicking up dust and noise unlike anybody else right now. Just imagine what is yet to come.

The Cattle Drums Summer Tour begins this weekend. Download/view the Tour Poster. As always, if you’d like to attend a show or speak with the band, please drop me a line here.

Nightlights – Debut Full-Length Out Today

NIGHTLIGHTS – Debut Full-Length SO IT GOES Out Today
——————————————————————————–

CD / Digital available from Eulogy Recordings
Exclusive album stream @ Punknews.org
• U.S Tour (07/21 – 08/15)

——————————————————————————–

So It Goes, the debut full-length from Nightlights (Daytona Beach, FL), is officially out today from Eulogy Recordings (Set Your Goals, Kids Like Us, Unearth).

Recorded and mixed by I Am The Avalanche’s Brett Romnes and mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side, you can grab a copy of the CD from the label here or swing by iTunes and other online retailers for the digital version. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the 12″ version of So It Goes has been delayed. Stay tuned for updates on the vinyl pressing.

Currently, Punknews.org is streaming So It Goes in its entirety. To listen the full album, go here. Be sure to check out interviews with vocalist / guitarist Matt Messore at AMP Magazine and Dying Scene as well.

Born from the ashes of No Harm Done, Nightlights blasts through ten crunchy, melody-packed punk anthems that bring to mind contemporaries such as Latterman and The Menzingers. Still, the Florida quartet has grown considerably since last year’s debut EP, Long Way Home. Mixing power and passion with a healthy amount of restraint, atmosphere and dynamic song construction. So It Goes is one of those rare albums that works on a visceral gut level while exercising the brain muscles as well.

Beginning on July 21st, Nightlights will be touring the U.S. in support of So It Goes. Tentative routing is below but expect confirmations within the next couple of weeks. As always, if you’d like to attend a show or speak with the band, drop me a line here.

Recorded by Alex Newport (Frank Turner, At The Drive-In, Rival Schools, Samiam) at Big Blue Meenie and Futureshock Studios, and mastered by Jeff Lipton (Arcade Fire, Dead Milkmen, Piebald, Sebadoh), Tributaries features 10 tracks of propulsive, highly infectious working-class punk rock that is as catchy and immediate as it is textured and nuanced. Much like The Reveling’s well-received 2009 EP, 3D Radio, this new full-length is anchored by a punchy rhythm section and plenty of throw-your-fists-in-the-air anthems. Still, Tributaries finds the band in top songwriting form, tighter and more cohesive than ever, with an even greater emphasis on the soaring harmonies that made The Reveling so irresistible in the first place.

THE STORY SO FAR – Exclusive Full-Length Stream for Under Soil And Dirt

• Debut LP now streaming @ Alternative Press
• Out Tuesday (06/21/11) – pre-order now from Pure Noise Records
• West Coast release tour begins today – July U.S. tour w/ I Call Fives, We Are The Union

——————————————————————————–

Under Soil And Dirt, the debut full-length from The Story So Far (Walnut Creek, CA) is now streaming exclusively at Alternative Press. To listen to all 11 tracks before Tuesday’s release date (06/21/11), go here.

Of course, if you like what you hear, you can pre-order the album now from Pure Noise Records, which is releasing Under Soil And Dirt on CD, digital and 12″ LP formats. The vinyl will be limited to a pressing of 1000 on three colorways (200 cream w/ red+blue splatter / 300 translucent teal / 500 black) and each copy will come with a full album download. Additionally, anyone who pre-orders the 12″ will automatically be entered to win a test press from the label.

Recorded by Sam Pura at The Panda Studios (Sabertooth Zombie, Heavy Heavy Low Low), the record is the follow-up to The Story So Far’s last two highly acclaimed EPs, including the recent split 7″ with Maker on Pure Noise. Under Soil And Dirt is an undeniably catchy affair, bursting with fist-pumping choruses, dynamic guitars and a propulsive rhythm section. Still, the quintet toes the line between hardcore and rock n’ roll, all while making a clear statement about its underground punk roots. As heavy as it is accessible, this amazing full-length will undoubtedly be seen as a definitive release for TSSF and points toward a bright future for the California outfit.

In related news, The Story So Far will be touring heavily in support of its new long-player, starting with a week-long West Coast record release tour that kicks off today, as well as a full U.S. tour in July with I Call Fives and We Are The Union. Can’t Take This Away 12″ out July 12, 2011 – Pre-Order info soon
• Now available as free / name-your-price download
• U.S. Tour w/ This Is Your Life (July 02 – 26)

——————————————————————————–

Animal Style Records is stoked to announce that on July 12th it will release Can’t Take This Away, the debut full-length from Hold Tight! (Richmond, VA).

Originally self-released digitally by the band last year via Bandcamp, the label will give these 14 songs a proper vinyl release with a limited pressing of 500 12-inches on three colorways (100 clear w/ black / 200 white / 200 red). It’s worth noting that the record is still available for free / name-your-price download at Bandcamp. Animal Style will also release the LP through all the usual digital outlets, including iTunes.

Undoubtedly influenced by Richmond’s thriving underground scene, as well as greats like Lifetime and Latterman, Hold Tight! tears through fourteen gravelly, fist-pumping songs that explode with an entire Summer’s worth of sing-along choruses and propulsive punk anthems. There’s no shortage of infectious energy on Can’t Take This Away and the young quartet makes a lasting impression with this memorable debut.

Stay tuned for pre-order info. In the meantime, you can catch Hold Tight! on its upcoming U.S. tour with This Is Your Life beginning on July 3rd. As always, if you’d like to attend a show or speak with the band, drop me a line here.

A message from Run With The Hunted

By , 11 June, 2011, No Comment

“Two days ago on our way to our show in Brunswick, OH we got a devastating phone call. Our drummer Matt was told that his grandparents had been killed in a car accident. We immediately took him to the airport so he could fly home and be with his family. Fortunately, our good friend Steve from Another Breath is going to fill in for us for a few days, but we still have 10 shows left and Matt is flying back to finish them. Being in a touring band, most of us don’t have jobs to come home to and flying across the country round trip last minute is extremely expensive. If anyone can help us out in any way, it would go a long way towards helping us finish our tour and allowing our band to continue doing what we love. You can donate money via Paypal to: rwthbooking@gmail.com. Thanks so much, please keep the Davirro family in your thoughts.”

Atlanta, GA’s The Wild and Pittsburgh, PA’s Run, Forever are gearing up for some heavy U.S. touring in support of the bands’ upcoming Split 7″ on Solidarity Recordings. Due out on June 21st, the four song release will be limited to 500 on black and color vinyl. More details and pre-order info coming soon. Both bands should have copies of the 7″ on tour beginning in mid-June as well.

On a related note, our friends at Punknews.org have just launched an exclusive stream for the split release. To listen to all the songs, go here.

While The Wild and Run, Forever are touring separately, the two will meet up for a week of shows beginning on June 4th at Crucial Fun Fest in Lexington, KY. Also noteworthy for The Wild is a week of shows with Andrew Jackson Jihad, as well as appearances at Plan-It-X Fest and the Asian Man Records 15th Anniversary Festival in San Francisco on June 17th.

Speaking of Asian Man, on July 12th, the label will release A Collection from The Wild, which is a CD re-release of various out-of-print singles, EPs, live songs and split releases. The band will have copies available for sale on the upcoming tour. Also check out Set Ourselves Free, The Wild’s 2010 full-length, which is available as a donation-based download from Quote Unquote Records.

As for Run, Forever, the Pennsylvania trio has been touring steadily in support of its recent full-length, The Devil, And Death, And Me. Originally self-released by the outfit in July of 2010 and officially re-issued by Solidarity at the end of last year, the California label recently pressed a 12″ vinyl version of this terrific album, which you can grab here or from the band at shows. While you’re at it, click here to watch this terrific new video for the title track from The Devil, And Death, And Me.

• Stream brand-new song: “Quicksand
• West Coast release tour + full U.S. tour w/ I Call Fives, We Are The Union

——————————————————————————–

Under Soil And Dirt, the debut full-length from The Story So Far (Walnut Creek, CA) is now available for pre-order from Pure Noise Records. The label will release the 11-song effort on CD, digital and 12″ LP formats on June 21st, 2011.

Recorded by Sam Pura at The Panda Studios (Sabertooth Zombie, Heavy Heavy Low Low), the record is the follow-up to the quintet’s last two highly acclaimed EPs, including the recent split 7″ with Maker on Pure Noise. The vinyl will be limited to a pressing of 1000 on three colorways (200 cream w/ red+blue splatter / 300 translucent teal / 500 black) and each copy will come with a full album download.

To celebrate the pre-order, Pure Noise and The Story So Far are streaming a brand new song. Listen to “Quicksand” here.

Under Soil And Dirt is an undeniably catchy affair, bursting with fist-pumping choruses, dynamic guitars and a propulsive rhythm section. Still, The Story So Far toes the line between hardcore and rock n’ roll, all while making a clear statement about its underground punk roots. As heavy as it is accessible, this amazing full-length will undoubtedly be seen as a definitive release for TSSF and points toward a bright future for the California outfit.

In related news, The Story So Far will be touring heavily in support of its new long-player, including a week-long West Coast record release tour in June and a full U.S. tour in July with I Call Fives and We Are The Union. ——————————————————————————–

Say Hello, the debut full-length from Born Without Bones (Milford, MA) is officially out today and available to order from Animal Style Records.

Limited to a pressing of 500 12-inches on three colorways (100 black / 200 sky blue / 200 wheat yellow), each copy of Say Hello comes with a full album download, plus an additional eight unreleased B-side tracks. A handful of these b-sides are streaming exclusively at Property Of Zack while the album songs are available as a free / pay-what-you-want download via Bandcamp. The record can be purchased from iTunes as well. For more info, go here.

Listen to “Say Hello” – Free mp3

Recorded by Kory Gable (Strike Anywhere, The Dangerous Summer, I Call Fives), Say Hello is an incredibly varied, occasionally theatrical yet highly infectious full-length that finds Born Without Bones laying a rock-solid foundation on the basis of pop and punk rock. Still, the framework of these 12 songs is fortified by a wide array of influences, which is to say that there’s no shortage of intriguing ideas on the record. Of course, if these ideas weren’t so perfectly executed, Say Hello would not make nearly the impact it does. While Born Without Bones’ primary goal seems to be crafting upbeat, dynamic songs with melodies that last for days and days, the band’s undeniable ambition and ability to transition from flat-out punk burners to sweet, piano-laced offerings to intimate acoustic numbers makes for one impressive debut.

BLACK NUMBERS to Release Debut Full-Length from THE REVELING
——————————————————————————–

Tributaries LP / CD out June 21, 2011
• Recorded by Alex Newport
• First single streaming exclusively @ Absolutepunk.net

——————————————————————————–

Brooklyn, NY’s The Reveling has officially joined Black Numbers (Grey Area, Static Radio NJ, Go Rydell, PJ Bond) and will release its debut full-length, Tributaries, with the New Jersey label on June 21, 2011.

Swing on by Absolutepunk.net to hear an exclusive stream of the first single from the record, Left At Forkright.

MIXTAPES – Pre-Order Hope Is For People 7″
——————————————————————————–

• Vinyl out 05/03/11 from Animal Style Records
• Also available on Digital + CD formats
• Full Stream @ Punknews.org
• May tour dates

——————————————————————————–

Hope Is For People, the newest 7″ release from Cincinnati, Ohio’s Mixtapes is now available for pre-order from Animal Style Records.

Limited to a pressing of 500 on three colorways (100 white / 200 sky blue / 200 translucent pink), the vinyl will see an official street date of May 3rd, 2011. All records will come with a digital download, which includes a bonus acoustic version of the song “Where I Live.” The track is also available on the CD version, and the EP can be downloaded via Bandcamp too.

An exclusive stream of Hope Is For People is now up at Punknews.org. To listen to the record in its entirety, go here. You can grab a free mp3 for the title track as well.

Showing no signs of slowing down any time soon, the Mixtapes kids have cranked out yet another concise blast of highly infectious, perfectly blended power pop, ’90s indie rock and gritty punk. Hope Is For People comes on the heels of the band’s last 7″ on Animal Style, A Short Collection of Short Songs, and finds the quartet focusing more on bouncy, driving anthems and less on the introspective offers … although this new EP still retains that signature Mixtapes earnestness that endeared the band to us in the first place. Any way you slice it, Mixtapes occupies a rare space in punk rock where honestly and serious musicianship collide with a sweet disposition and a real sense that having fun should be a big part of the equation.

- Mixtapes has more than earned a spot in the area of ‘pop punk bands you must hear’ and has been garnering new fans everywhereAMP Magazine
- Mixtapes just keep getting better and better with every release … songs that really hit you in the heart and deep in your soul.Manual Dexterity
- There’s something to be said about honest, to-the-point songs, and Mixtapes seems to have it down to a science. Buzzlegoose.com
- Spiky indie hooks with pop-punk recklessness, Mixtapes channel old memories into a new sense of being. Alternative Press
- Easily one of the best pop-punk bands around today.ThePunkSite.com

Finally, Mixtapes has kept up a fairly heavy touring schedule this year, and life on the road continues in May, including a run of shows with Dear Landlord, a weekend with Red City Radio and a slot at Pouzza Fest in Montreal. As always, if you’d like to attend a show or speak with the band, drop me a line here.

SWTHRT – Release Debut Album For Free Download

SWTHRT – Release Compact Disc For Free Download
——————————————————————————————————

* “Boys With Problems” single with B-Side still available on Bandcamp
* Sample “I Am In Misery” on RCRD LBL
* Making of Compact Disc video
* Beat Happening cover also available

——————————————————————————————————

Southport, NC indie duo SWTHRT have released their debut album, Compact Disc, for free download on Bandcamp. RCRD LBL calls it a “raw, DIY take on new wave”.

Rising from the indie/punk of his full-time band, Museum Mouth, Karl Kuehn creates something a bit different with SWTHRT. What started out as a senior graduation project for keyboardist Becca High, turned into a real band after only a few days of writing/recording between the two friends. With that, the new wave/shoegaze pop of SWTHRT was officially born. Echoing influences like New Order, The Cure and late period Joy Division, SWTHRT carries on the DIY/punk aesthetic of Museum Mouth while pushing the new wave tendencies to the foreground.

The first single “Boys With Problems” includes a B-side, an acoustic version of the album track, “I Hate This”. Additionally, you can sample the second single, “I Am In Misery”, on RCRD LBL.

The band lovingly put together a making of the album video for Compact Disc that can be viewed here. Also, the band’s first recording, a cover of Beat Happening’s “Indian Summer”, can be downloaded on Bandcamp as well.

Recorded in the mountains of North Carolina, Compact Disc simmers with youthful frustration. There is a real dichotomy with Kuehn’s deep vocals resonating over the instantly affecting guitar and keyboard driven hooks of the band. The airy instrumental swells carry you far away while the duo’s restless lyrical stylings slowly bring you back down to earth. With both Kuehn and High in transitional phases of their lives, Compact Disc serves as a cathartic project for them both. It also serves as quite the magical beginning for SWTHRT.
