Call It Arson Moth Wash: The Old Flames Seven Inch (Kill Normal)

Release Date: September 2008
Undoubtedly two of the best, most sonically resonant songs that CALL IT ARSON (New Haven, C.T.) has committed to tape, Moth Wash: The Old Flames Seven Inch is the sound of a band that just as comfortable with catchy, driving rhythms and textured dynamics as much as it’s willing to explore more turbulent, soul-searching territory.
The straightforward strumming of “There’s A Way To Be On” kicks off this release with energy and conviction. Upbeat, blue collar indie rock that’s raw and honest, the song packs more than enough melody and passion into two memorable minutes, evoking contemporaries such as Chamberlain and Waxwing.
On the flipside, the absolutely stunning “Sharpie” opens a door to the band’s darker, emotionally fragile psyche. It’s stripped-down, earnest and heartbreaking…a deep, slow burn that lasts long after this slab of vinyl ends.
All in all, Moth Wash stands as a truly memorable – albeit brief – effort from Call it Arson, and perhaps the band’s most accomplished work to date.
James Downes (guitar, vocals), Jeff Brown (bass), Ryan White (vocals, acoustic guitar) and Joe (drums) are Call It Arson. Limited to 500 and pressed on black and yellow / white vinyl, Moth Wash: The Old Flames Seven Inch was recorded at God City Studios with Kurt Ballou (Converge). For all you audiophiles, both songs were analog recorded, mixed and mastered, and then pressed directly to vinyl. Kill Normal Records released the 7-inch in September of 2008. The label also released the Animal Strings EP in 2006 and the band’s Self-Titled full-length in 2005. For more info go to www.myspace.com/callitarson or www.killnormal.com
