Tiny Engines To Release Debut LP From Mannequin Pussy / Video Premiere on Impose

• Debut LP, Gypsy Pervert, out Summer 2014 on Tiny Engines
• RIYL: Joanna Gruesome, White Lung, Big Eyes

——————————————————————————–

Tiny Engines is excited to welcome NYC’s Mannequin Pussy to the roster. The label will be re-releasing the band’s debut full-length, Gypsy Pervert, on vinyl for the first time this Summer.

The band recently premiered a video for “Clue Juice” from Gypsy Pervert. You can check that out on Impose. You can also listen to the song on Soundcloud. More album details and song premieres coming soon!

Originally begun as a duo between childhood friends, Mannequin Pussy expanded to a three-piece for their debut album, Gypsy Pervert. The beefed up sound is evident from the beginning as the band shifts seamlessly from grungey punk rock blasts to more textured shoegazey pop. Clocking in at less than 20 minutes, Gypsy Pervert sways urgently back and forth. Raw and confrontational yet still melodic and inviting, Mannequin Pussy show off a diverse palette on their debut album.

——————————————————————————–

The video was directed, shot and edited by Ben Hendricks of fellow Akron band, Annabel.

Justin Sane of Anti-Flag had this to say about Worship This!:

“In a laptop production era, its pretty great to come across a band that gives a shit. Worship This! are a band that you want to be friends with. They sound real, sincere, touchable, on a level that I haven’t seen in years. Melodic punk rock in a world where there is very little true melodic punk rock. Tracked live, “Tomorrow, I’ll Miss You” is 4 friends capturing and documenting real life. If you like records that are Copernican, you’re going to want this in your collection.”

The band is premiering their video for the track “[ ]” on Noisey/Vice today. You can stream another new song, “Yo No Quiero”, on Brooklyn Veganas well.

As much as one might enjoy and appreciate the brute force and precision of noise rock it’s also a genre that is too often owned and operated by jaded old dudes who turn up their noses at an audience. Luckily for us Direct Effect leave the holier than thou pretentious vibes at the door and invite the audience to do the same. The band is loud and heavy of course but they play with the intensity and reckless abandon of kids whose roots belong firmly within punk rock and hardcore. On their debut full-length, the band has measured out close to a half hour of unadulterated, noisy hardcore punk that will make fans of Paint It Black, Pissed Jeans and Metz stand up and take note. What was only hinted at on the band’s debut 7″ is now fully formed on Sunburn.

Liquid-like ins & outs, Belgrade dare themselves a slap in the face with the glove of simplicity. A subversively straightforward reverb-fest. Shimmer and swoon forward and back like a chorus for the night, to consume by day. Anthems for your cloudy nocturnal courage.

Placeholder – Video Premiere on Blank TV / Pre-Order New LP On Black Numbers

Placeholder – Video Premiere On Blank TV / New LP On Black Numbers Available For Pre-Order

• I Don’t Need Forgiveness LP out 9/17/13 on Black Numbers
• “Caught In The Crown” Song Premiere On Absolute Punk
• RIYL: Balance & Composure, Hot Water Music, Polar Bear Club, Far, Further Seems Forever

——————————————————————————————————

The new video from Placeholder (Harrisburg, PA) is now premiering on Blank TV. “Above” is taken from the band’s sophomore full-length, I Don’t Need Forgiveness, which is now available forPre-Order from Black Numbers. The album was recorded earlier this year and engineered by Justin Pizzoferrato (Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth). The LP will see an official release on September 17, 2013 on the Jersey City label.

You can also stream “Caught In The Crown” from I Don’t Need Forgiveness on Absolute Punk now.

Placeholder originally formed under the moniker Coastal in March 2011. After playing together in various bands in the past, the band quickly bonded and began writing/recording. The band’s first demo/EP, Demonstration, was released in the Summer of 2011. Placeholder quickly entered the studio in the Fall to record their debut full-length. Titled Nothing Is Pure, and released in December of 2011, Placeholder made a giant splash on their proper debut. Staying busy, the band followed their debut LP up with the 2012 EP, Thought I Would Have Been Somebody By Now, once again delivering on the promise of their earlier releases. The band strikes a chord with their heavy and melodic brand of songwriting. Playing emotionally intense post-hardcore, Placeholder echo modern bands such as Balance & Composure and Polar Bear Club while paying homage to their past influences. Mature, focused and full of determination, Placeholder leave quite the impression.

Little Big League – Video Premiere On Pitchfork / Debut LP Available On Tiny Engines

By , 21 August, 2013, 1 Comment

LITTLE BIG LEAGUE – Video Premiere on Pitchfork / Debut LP Out Now On Tiny Engines

• These Are Good People released earlier this month on Tiny Engines
• Daytrotter Session
• LBL playing Tiny Engines Showcase / The Fest
• RIYL: Hop Along, Rilo Kiley, Superchunk, Built To Spill, Sleater-Kinney

——————————————————————————–

You can now premiere the “My Very Own You” video from Philadelphia, PA’sLittle Big League as well as a track review for the song on Pitchfork. The video was shot by Out Of Town Films from Philly. The song comes from the band’s debut LP, These Are Good People, released on Tiny Engines earlier this month.

The 1st pressing of These Are Good People 12″ vinyl (TE123) is limited to 500 pressed on four colorways (105 Pink Carnation / 120 Icy Green / 130 Olympian Blue / 145 White). Also, Little Big League’s debut 7″ single is available from Tiny Engines as well.

The band performed a Daytrotter session that was posted recently. Also, view live videos for “Tokyo Drift” as well as “Never Have I Ever Walked Away When The Time Was Right.”

In the Fall of 2011, Michelle Zauner and Kevin O’Halloran (previously of Post Post) joined forces with Ian Dykstra (Titus Andronicus) and Deven Craige (Strand of Oaks) to form Little Big League. Shortly thereafter the band recorded their debut 7″. Released in April of 2012, the two songs offered a glimpse into the band’s promising future, which after months of writing and playing live took solid form in their debut LP These Are Good People.

The band’s debt to 90s indie guitar rock is respectfully paid while Zauner’s gorgeously unique vocal stylings and striking lyrical imagery add to the album’s dark atmosphere. There is a level of tension and impending danger built, both lyrically and musically, that revels in the vulnerability of us all. These Are Good People is an album about coming of age, loss, and the overwhelming acceptance of reality over a failed romanticism. Due out this Summer on Tiny Engines, the album is a stunning indie rock debut from the Philadelphia quartet.

Little Big League will be playing the Tiny Engines Showcase (w/ Restorations, Dikembe, Signals Midwest, Direct Effect) in Orlando on October 30th and then The Fest in Gainesville, FL. More tour dates to come!

BANQUETS – New Album Now Streaming on Punknews / Available for Pre-Order From BLACK NUMBERS

• Self-Titled LP out 5/7/13 on Black Numbers / Pre-Orders available now
• “Call It A Comeback” Video Premiere on Alternative Press
• Upcoming Fest appearances & record release shows announced

——————————————————————————————————

You can now stream the sophomore Self-Titled LP from Jersey City’s Banquets on Punknews. The album will see an official release date of May 7, 2013 and is available now for Pre-Order viaBlack Numbers. This is the follow-up to the band’s debut LP, Top Button, Bottom Shelf, which came out on Black Numbers in 2011.

The band also recently premiered the video for the album’s first single. “Call It A Comeback” was directed by Kevin Slack (Gaslight Anthem, Cursive, Bouncing Souls) and can be viewed onAlternative Press.

Following up their brilliant debut LP, 2011’s Top Button, Bottom Shelf, Banquets return with a Self-Titled sophomore effort that continues the band’s no filler approach. Much like its predecessor,Self-Titled clocks in at 10 songs under 30 minutes but there is a bit more breathing room here as the band expands and hones their sound. Along with guitarist/vocalist, Dave Frenson and bassist Christ Larsen, the addition of Brian Maguire on drums has been key to the band’s growth. Lead singer, Travis Omilian, is the secret weapon though, hiding behind the band’s ultra tight melodic pop/punk. There is a worn romanticism and a nostalgic charm to Omilian’s lyrics. Combined with the band’s dynamic sense of urgency and uplifting spirit, Omilian’s lyrics give Banquets a depth that is rare to find in the genre these days. Self-Titled truly encompasses the band’s growth into a songwriting tour de force.

The band is confirmed for two Fest appearances in May ahead of their release shows, Death To False Hope Fest in Durham, NC and Pouzza Fest in Montreal. Dates are below.

BEST PRACTICES – Exclusive Video Premiere on Punknews

• “Future Cougar” Video Streaming on Punknews.org
The EP LP Available Now on Tiny Engines
• Stream full album here

——————————————————————————————————

Providence, RI’s Best Practices released their debut album, The EP LP, this past summer on Tiny Engines (Dikembe, Restorations, State Faults). The band recently shot a video for the first single, “Future Cougar”, which can be viewed exclusively on Punknews.org.

The The EP LP 12″ vinyl is limited to 500 pressed on three colorways (75 Yellow / 175 Black w/ screen printed B-side / 250 Translucent Green). All vinyl pre-orders come with an instant mp3 download for the 9-song album. You can stream the entire record on Bandcamp.

Featuring current/former members of Light The Fuse And Run, Wow, Owls!, Weak Teeth and Jesuscentric, Best Practices is a return to the fundamentals of punk rock. On the band’s Tiny Engines debut, The EP LP, the quartet lets loose a whirlwind of (garage power pop) punk fury. Recorded with Will Killingsworth (Orchid, Ampere) at Dead Air Studios, Best Practices pummel their way through 9 songs in 12 glorious minutes. The band comes close to careening off the edge at points but never seem to overtake themselves. Chock full of razor sharp hooks Best Practices lays down a furious gauntlet that is as catchy as it is exhausting. All your left with as The EP LP fires towards the finish line is the feeling that you just want to do it all over again.

“If Dillinger Four grew up listening to Joyce Manor and played with the energy and rowdiness of early The Replacements it might sound like this.” AMP
“The EP LP is a one-sided 12-inch of punk that rests right in between Dillinger Four and Hot Snakes, with a little bit of twinkly emo sneaking in. It’s supremely angular and rousing garage rock.”Punknews.org
“I’ve been listening to this on repeat – easily one of my favourite releases of 2012 so far.”Collective Zine
“Forget Fucked Up!, Best Practices is where it’s at in 2012! How is this band not blowing up already?”Rock Freaks
“Best Practices have discovered the punk rock set of best practices, delivering fast, energetic punk rock heavily laden in short bursts.”About.com

In addition, the “Sexy But Not Happy” video is competing with four others to be added to the rotation on this week’s ‘The Freshmen’. Voting continues through Friday, November 16th. Please vote!

Museum Mouth is currently recording their follow-up album with Fake Problems‘ Derek Perry. Perry recently recorded You Blew It!’s debut LP, Grow Up, Dude, on Topshelf Records. Look for the new Museum Mouth record in early 2013.

In January 2012 indie punk band Museum Mouth released their sophomore album, Sexy But Not Happy. The album is available for streaming and free download on Bandcamp now. You can check out another video for the track “Blood Mountain” on Alternative Press.

While Museum Mouth’s 2010 debut, Tears In My Beer, screamed with youthful abandon, the band’s follow-up, Sexy But Not Happy, shows a group in the midst of growing up. Gone are the female vocals and the excitable naivety of youth. The growth is profound and evidenced by the increased musicianship and arrangements contained within Sexy But Not Happy. Drummer Karl Kuehn has taken over full vocal duties now having perfected his chops in the new-wavey side project, SWTHRT, earlier this year. And you can see the new wave tendencies of Kuehn’s SWTHRT project has colored Museum Mouth with a bit more personality. While Tears In My Beer was raw with excitable angst, Sexy But Not Happy practices a bit more mature contemplation. The band hasn’t abandoned those lo-fi sensibilities though, they have just honed their skills. The rawness has become warmth and Museum Mouth have become experts at their craft. Of course, Museum Mouth still knows how to rile up an indie pop/punk dance floor, just listen to the title track for proof of that. They just do so now with a bit more substance behind all the noise.
