    PJ BOND – Touring UK / Europe (March 16 – 29)
    ——————————————————————————–

    * In support of You Didn’t Know I Was Alphabetical
    * PJ tackles the Pink Couch

    ——————————————————————————–

New Jersey native PJ Bond – who for the past year has spent the majority of his days living out of his car, playing shows, crashing on couches and generally making a lot of new roommates – will embark on a month-long tour of the U.K. and mainland Europe beginning on Tuesday, March 16th.

Bond continues to tour in support of his latest full-length, You Didn’t Know I Was Alphabetical, which was released in late 2009 by Black Numbers in LP and CD format.

The ex-Outsmarting Simon front man has played in bands such as The Color Fred, Marigold and Communipaw, but in comparison to previous endeavors, Alphabetical is a decidedly more organic, homespun affair. It’s a heartfelt slice of creaky, back porch Americana tossed against a perfectly catchy pop backdrop. Still, Bond throws a little bit of everything into the mix, from rustic, up tempo alt-country rockers to haunting, melancholy acoustic offerings and sweetly infectious indie numbers.

Listen to “You, Too” (free mp3)

    - A brilliant collection of songs ranging from Matt Pond PA to early Wilco folk-rockers. The whole album ebbs and flows from one emotional chord to another with ease. – Verbicide
    - Bond’s eloquence and clarity approaches Paul Westerberg / Elliott Smith standards in terms of making the mundane sound essential, and vice versa. – No Depression
    - Bond combines compelling storytelling sensibilities with sobering reflections, underpinned by lush melodies and more than a hint of melancholy. – Rock Sound

On a related note, Bond recently partook in the famed Pink Couch Sessions for the inimitable IfYouMakeIt.com. You can watch him perform the song “Baby Bones” here.

As always, if you’d like to attend a show or speak with PJ, drop me a line here.

SLEEP BELLUM SONNO and RAPID CITIES – On Tour
    ——————————————————————————–

    * Two-week East Coast tour begins today (March 09 – 27)
    * Sleep Bellum Sonno’s Judge Us By How We Lived Our Lives … available now
    * Rapid Cities’ Machinery Saints available now

    ——————————————————————————–

Long Island, NY’s Sleep Bellum Sonno and New Brunswick, NJ’s Rapid Cities are set to embark on an East Coast tour together starting today. The two bands are once again playing shows in support of their 2009 full-length albums, Judge Us By How We Lived Our Lives, Not By How We Made Our Living and Machinery Saints, respectively.

The bands will play together from March 9th through the 20th, with Sleep Bellum Sonno continuing on for five more shows.

Sleep Bellum Sonno have composed an ambitious, conceptual record that not only stretches the limits of the artist, but of the listener as well. Recorded live, the album tells the tale of twelve characters who all intertwine into one larger story of a husband / father leaving his wife and two sons behind. To say that Sleep Bellum Sonno’s Judge Us By How We Lived Our Lives, Not By How We Made Our Living is a challenging listen might be an understatement. But for those willing to indulge themselves the riches buried within are plenty.

Listen to “A House Of Spades Stands No Chance Against The Wind (Gambler)” (Free mp3)

Deliberately evoking familiar patterns of hardcore and punk rock tradition, and spitting it out with a conscious, yet subtle control of the unconventional and the dissonant, Rapid Cities accepts the challenge to take the step forward. The resulting art of the band’s debut, Machinery Saints, observes what is pleasurable about today’s living, as well as what is mundane. Rapid Cities are both a breath of fresh air as well as an assurance that truly “progressive” yet enjoyable music is still possible.

Listen to “In My Mind” (Free mp3)

You can view a tour video and download a tour poster. As always, if you’d like to attend or speak with the bands, drop me a line here.

TOPSHELF / CLICKPOP To Release ROOFTOPS Debut Full-Length
    ——————————————————————————–

    * Vinyl pre-orders start April 1st from Topshelf Records
    * CD to be released on Clickpop Records
    * US Tour (Mar 12 – Apr 11)

    ——————————————————————————–

Topshelf Records and Clickpop Records are both thrilled to announce the release of A Forest Of Polarity, the debut album from Bellingham, Washington’s Rooftops.

Clickpop will release the CD while Topshelf will be handling the vinyl. All formats will hit stores around the globe on May 18th, 2010, but you’ll be able to Pre-Order the LP from Topshelf beginning on April 1st.

Rooftops take its brand of intricate math pop and layer it generously with acoustic guitars, horns, strings and percussion. The resulting arrangements create an impressive sound uniting math rock and post rock into something bold, new and exciting. The band adds vocals to the mix only sparingly but at brilliantly timed intervals for maximum effect. It is the bold, unbridled enthusiasm of math rock harnessed only by the restraints and subtle nuances of post rock. A Forest Of Polarity is the sound of two becoming one. Can you hear it?

The band is streaming songs from A Forest Of Polarity on its Myspace page. Additionally, you can download an mp3 for the song “Raft Easily” here.

Beginning next Friday, Rooftops will embark on a month-long trek across the US with The Americas. If you’d like to attend or speak with the band, drop me a line here.

TINY ENGINES To Release EVERYONE EVERYWHERE LP

    * Pre-order Self-Titled 12″ (out 05/04/10)
    * Band now streaming two brand new songs
    * Download 2009 debut 7″ for FREE @ If You Make It

    ——————————————————-

Tiny Engines is pleased to announce that it will release the Self-Titled debut full-length from Philadelphia’s Everyone Everywhere.

The album, which will be released in vinyl and digital formats on May 04, 2010, is now up for pre-order from the label. Tiny Engines will press 500 12-inches on maroon and off-white colorways (350 / 150). To secure a copy of this amazing record, go here.

The band is currently streaming two brand new songs, “Tiny Boat” and “Blown Up Grown Up,” on its Myspace page.

Everyone Everywhere’s eponymous debut builds on the rock-solid foundation laid down on last year’s dynamic 7″, A Lot Of Weird People Standing Around, and further pushes the band’s sonic palette in exciting new directions at every turn. Sure, those lovely Promise Ring vibes remain – not to mention hints of Braid’s twisting-yet-tuneful angularity, the crackling anti-anthems of indie heroes Superchunk and Piebald’s off-kilter sense of melody – but the Philly four piece has honed its songwriting chops, dialed in its amps and seriously upped the ante with this emotionally taut ten-song affair.

On a related note, Everyone Everywhere and Evil Weevil Records, the label responsible for the 7″ version of A Lot Of Weird People Standing Around, have teamed up with the awesome folks at If You Make It to give away a digital copy of the 4-song effort. To download this sweet little release, completely free from financial obligation, go here.

    - Standing above a lot of bands that attempt to emulate those near-perfect years of the Midwest, Everyone Everywhere is destined to turn more than a few heads. – ScenePointBlank
    - Sounding like the spunky lovechild of Rainer Maria, American Football and Piebald, Everyone Everywhere is late 90s emo done right. – Punkbands.com
    - Everyone Everywhere put their own unique spin on mid / late-`90s revival … ridiculously promising and occasionally brilliant. – Punknews.org

    * CD available for stream and purchase

    ——————————————————————————–

New Brunswick, NJ’s Communipaw and South Carolina-based music blog Sound As Language are excited to announce that the band’s Self-Titled debut full-length is now available for full Free Download on the site.

The record is the first in a new feature for the blog where albums and EPs of different genres will be made available for free with direct permission from the artist. The only criteria is that music be quality and of course, independent.

Led by singer/songwriter Brian Bond, Communipaw mixes its love of soaring, anthemic indie rock with a classic songwriting sensibility and a slice of alt-country. Along the way, the band has crafted a dynamic brand of indie-pop, building a reputation for originality in its hometown scene. This Self-Titled recording morphed into a year long adventure that brought the band to eight different studio spaces and inspired eleven new songs, experimentation, revision and reinvention along every step of the way. The resulting Self-Titled record illustrates at once a lush synthesis of the group’s diverse influences – from shoegaze to surf rock and everything in between – and a testament to the maturity of the band’s songwriting.

    - Take Over (mp3)
    - 2:23 (mp3)

Communipaw plans to tour the US extensively this summer. Until then go pick up the album for free!

    * Stream or download Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo now
    * Videos for each song upcoming

    ——————————————————————————–

From the Haddons, the Hills and the Heights of suburban New Jersey comes It’s A King Thing – A band for boys and girls, late bloomers, nose pickers, pussies and procrastinators.

For the better part of 2009, It’s A King Thing has been recording it’s 2nd full-length, Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo, a record which expertly verse-chorus-verses its way into a 12 song / 36 minute concoction of “I can’t believe my mom just caught me masturbating” and winsome anti-folk vignettes.

Basically, these songs can beat up your band’s songs.

It’s A King Thing has matured into a indie power pop behemoth and Buffalo… is its crowning achievement. Led by singer / songwriter / smartass Brian Mietz and featuring former members of the criminally underrated Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A Start, It’s A King Thing should find fans of the first two Weezer albums, The Lemonheads, Nada Surf and Guided By Voices drooling uncontrollably. You can stream the entire album here, and like all of the band’s previous material, Buffalo … is available for FREE DOWNLOAD!

Trying to pick “singles” off Buffalo … is like trying to determine which hot girl is the hottest. Nevertheless, we chose “Old Hobbies” and “Mush Mouth” (free mp3s) for your ear pleasure.

The band also has the ambitious plan to shoot a video for each song on Buffalo…. The results are sure to be humourous. In fact, three are already complete and you can check those out here. Schweet!

“If you are bummed on the last four Weezer records (however many they have put out since Pinkerton that is), just know there are bands like It’s A King Thing still out there still sticking it to the man.” – Sound As Language

POST HARBOR – Pre-Order New CD – They Can’t Hurt You If You Don’t Believe In Them
    —————————————————————————————-

    * Record release show tonight / March West Coast tour
    * Album streaming on Burning Building Recordings
    * Video for “Shirakashi”

    —————————————————————————————-

Tonight, Post Harbor celebrates the release of its sophomore full-length, They Can’t Hurt You If You Don’t Believe In Them, with a record release show at Neumo’s in its hometown of Seattle. The album will be released on February 23rd by Burning Building Recordings but is available for pre-order starting today.

The Seattle-based label is now streaming the album in its entirety and you can also download a free mp3 for the song “Caves, Hollow Trees And Other Dwellings.” Additionally, a video for “Shirakashi” has been posted on Youtube.

Already grabbing headlines with a unique, vocally dynamic take on the post-rock formula, fans of Mogwai, Sigur Ros, Explosions In The Sky and Sunny Day Real Estate should take note. Post Harbor not only blurs the line between genres, it transcend the boundaries, pushing limits with ambitious arrangements and gorgeously complex musical landscapes. Expansive and reflective without compromising its focused precision, Post Harbor has the ability to transport the listener to another time and place. The ethereal vocals of Anthony Carlucci tremble with restrained emotion and act as yet another instrument in this expansive orchestra of sounds. With each listen, They Can’t Hurt You If You Don’t Believe In Them slowly reveals layer upon intricate layer, and the results are often majestic.

Following its record release show tonight, Post Harbor will embark on a West Coast tour in March. If you’d like to attend or speak with the band, drop me a line here.

Topshelf Records (Defeater, My Heart To Joy) is ecstatic to officially unleash Pianos Become The Teeth’s sophomore album, Old Pride, into the world today. The full-length has been met with high praise and is now available in all its glory from Top Shelf or digitally from Amazon and iTunes.

Screamo is dead. Or at least that is what some people say. However, Pianos Become The Teeth begs to differ. The band turns the oversaturated and overproduced genre upside down with an album so powerful and so brave it can only be compared to the legends that preceded it. Mixing elements of hardcore, post rock and screamo, Old Pride breathes new life into a once decaying scene. Pianos Become The Teeth has a melodic yet uncompromising sound that showcases a diverse set of influences. Brimming with sincerity and brandishing an experimental ambiance, the band is pushing beyond the boundaries of a stale genre with poetic lyrics and an impassioned delivery. Screamo is dead? The skeptics might want to listen to Old Pride before making such bold proclamations.

“Euphoric, exhilarating and utterly discordant … the kind of band that allows you to feel young, nervous and excited about music again. Powerful, majestic, important and truly fantastic from start to finish.” – Rock Sound
“Pianos Become The Teeth skillfully works elegant, lush instrumentation while pushing and pulling between ebullient, manic intensity that shrieks and screams with conviction and emotive uproaring.” – Go211.com
“An eight song powerhouse of unabashed hardcore and screamo intertwined with building crescendos and post-rock interludes … unique as it is impressively devastating.” – Bedwetting Cosmonaut
“Pianos Become the Teeth excel at constructing artfully elegant and resplendent instrumental passages, before decimating them with torturously emotional screamed catharsis.” – Strange Glue

    The Reptilian – On Tour

THE REPTILIAN – Winter Tour with Cloud Mouth
    ——————————————————-

    * Winter Tour now underway (Dec 28 – Jan 22)
    * In support of Boys’ Life
    * Recording 4-way split for Count Your Lucky Stars

    ——————————————————-

THE REPTILIAN is once again taking its unique brand of party math rock on the road, continuing to support its first proper release, Boys’ Life, which was released earlier this year on Count Your Lucky Stars.

While the band will be playing most shows with Cloud Mouth, it will also find itself sharing the stage with the likes of Empire! Empire! (I Was A Lonely Estate), Victor! Fix The Sun, La Dispute, Joie De Vivre, My Heart To Joy, Loose Lips Sink Ships, Noumenon and Native.

In addition, The Reptilian will make a brief detour for studio time in Rockford, IL, where it will be recording for a 4-way split with labelmates Empire! Empire! (I Was A Lonely Estate), Annabel and Joie De Vivre. The album will of course be released by Count Your Lucky Stars in 2010.

The Reptilian shows off an intelligent craftsmanship as it consistently balances an aggressive nature with a remarkable intricacy. Boys’ Life, while hectic in its assault, maintains proper balance and structure within the band’s compelling approach to songwriting. Behind the youthful abandon, a stunning maturity is revealed in the quartet’s unique brand of controlled madness. Off kilter, yet incredibly melodic, The Reptilian hits you from just about every angle imaginable.

Listen to “I’ll Ram My Ovipositor Down Your Throat And Lay My Eggs In Your Chest But, I’m Not An Alien!” (Free mp3)

As you can see the band needs some help with shows in certain cities. If you can help out, please email reptilianband520@gmail.com.

THE WONDER YEARS – new CD THE UPSIDES available for Pre-Order!
    ——————————————————————————–

    * No Sleep also offering exclusive 7-inch (available only with CD pre-order)
    * Band streaming new song, “Washington Square Park”
    * Holiday shows with Valencia, Crime In Stereo

    ——————————————————————————–

The Upsides, the long-awaited, highly anticipated sophomore full-length from Philly’s very own pop punk juggernauts, The Wonder Years, is now available for pre-order. Cruise on over to No Sleep Records to secure your very own copy of this amazing record, which will see an official January 26, 2010 release date.

As a special pre-order bonus, No Sleep is offering an limited-edition 7-inch featuring a brand new, non-album track titled “Leavenhouse. 11:30.” The label has pressed 500 copies of the clear vinyl release, which boasts a screened B-side and can only be obtained with a purchase of the new CD. Furthermore, there are several “Pre-Order Only” package combinations available which include the aforementioned 7-inch, plus an exclusive tee shirt and hoody. For more info and options, go here.

Additionally, all pre-orders will receive a free autographed poster while supplies last. It’s also worth noting that each CD copy of The Upsides contains a code to download three remixed / remastered mp3s from The Wonder Years’ debut album, Get Stoked On It, that will be included on an upcoming collection release titled Six Dudes From The Keystone State.

Twelve songs recorded by Vince Ratti (Circa Survive, None More Black, Tigers Jaw), The Upsides, is the product of nearly two months of intense writing and creative volleying, punctuated by the five members’ decision to move into a one bedroom house in South Philly and spend a scorching summer locked in a 15′ x 15′ basement toiling over every single part of every single song. Fueled by a seemingly endless supply of freeze-pops and iced coffee, The Wonder Years has written a truly collaborative album that will resonate with its past influences and speak to new ones as well. More importantly, The Upsides exudes a simple message of hope and redemption … that maybe it’s not okay to feel defeated and downtrodden just because the world expects you to be miserable. Rather, it’s vital to stand your ground remember that everyone deserves a chance to be happy.

And speaking of happy, the band has finally unveiled a new song from the album; “Washington Square Park” is currently streaming at The Wonder Years’ Myspace page.

In related news, The Wonder Years will be playing a few shows after Christmas with Valencia and Crime In Stereo. This of course is just a prelude to the massive amounts of national touring in 2010 in support of the release of The Upsides.

Black Numbers Signs Over Stars And Gutters

BLACK NUMBERS signs OVER STARS AND GUTTERS
    ——————————————————————————–

    * Label to reissue Consider This Your Curse on LP / CD
    * Pre-order record now
    * Also available as a donation-based download

    ——————————————————————————–

BLACK NUMBERS welcomes Norman, Oklahoma’s OVER STARS AND GUTTERS as the newest addition to its growing roster.

Originally self-released, the New Jersey label will reissue the band’s debut full-length, Consider This Your Curse, on CD as well as vinyl for the very first time. The initial pressing of the 12″ will be limited to 500 copies (300 orange, 200 yellow). A physical release date has been set for January 12, 2010, with pre-orders shipping ahead of time. You can secure your copy at the Black Numbers webstore now.

Additionally, Black Numbers and Over Stars And Gutters are currently offering Consider This Your Curse as a donation-based download via the label’s Bandcamp site. Try before you buy!

Consider This Your Curse was recorded by Stephen Egerton (The Descendents, All) between March and May of 2009 at Armstrong Recordings in Tulsa, OK. For fans of Hot Water Music, Dillinger Four and Off With Their Heads, the album is a collection of punk rock anthems that breeds much more than your standard, mindless fist-pumping. The album is sincere and passionate yet ripe with despair and confusion. Over Stars And Gutters wrap their jaded, lyrical stabs in heaps of emphatic melody. This is raw and urgent melodic hardcore for people ready and willing to challenge the status quo. In the words of the band, “We have no other choice but to live for what we truly love.” Punk rock is still alive and well and records like Consider This Your Curse prove that.

Listen to “I’d Rather Be Dead” (mp3)

In related news, Over Stars And Gutters will be hitting the road in December / Early January with John Moreland and the Black Gold Band. Dates and specifics to follow shortly.
