Black Numbers To Release Debut LP From Muscle & Bone

• Peace & Light LP out May 2014 on Black Numbers
• Artwork / Tracklising Released
• RIYL: Tigers Jaw, Joie De Vivre, The Anniversary

——————————————————————————–

Black Numbers is thrilled to announce they will release the debut full-length from Asheville, NC indie/emo band, Muscle & Bone. The LP, entitled Peace & Light, will see an official release in May with vinyl pre-orders going live later this month. Song premieres coming soon!

Peace & Light will follow up the band’s debut Self-Titled EP which is available for name-your-price download on Bandcamp currently.

Muscle & Bone began in mid-2012 in the hopes of creating something heavily focused on the sounds of records the band had grown up with. Within a month, the band had written five songs before even finding a bassist. Muscle & Bone would quickly record and digitally release a Self-Titled EP with a heavy focus on melodies and interplaying guitar lines. The EP was subsequently released in 2013 on vinyl by Bitter Melody Records with an added The Anniversary cover. Through 2013 more songs were written for an upcoming full-length and the result would be Peace & Light. The album showcases the band picking apart elements from hardcore, pop, emo and 90’s rock as they continue to weave dark lyrics and themes but with a more straightforward approach.

Museum Mouth To Release New LP on Self Aware Records

• Alex I Am Nothing LP out May 2014 on Self Aware
• Artwork / Tracklisting / Album Teaser Released
• RIYL: The Thermals, Lemuria, Cloud Nothings

——————————————————————————–

NC indie/pop/punk band Museum Mouth will release their third proper full-length, Alex I Am Nothing, on Self Aware Records in May. Song premieres coming soon and vinyl pre-orders are set to start later this month. You can view the album teaser here.

Alex I Am Nothing is a concept album about becoming obsessed with someone you can not have. The chords and song structures throughout the record stay consistent, there are repeated lyrical themes and the album is bookended with two “Alex” tracks. The record plays out the entire lifespan of said “relationship” (friendship, obsession, etc.) with the opening track (“Alex Impulse”) setting the scene and resolving with the closing track (“Alex Decider”). Side A tries to rationalize this doomed relationship whereas Side B accepts that the relationship will never happen. While this particular story is told through the lens of a gay male, it is a narrative that is universal regardless of sex or orientation.

Alex I Am Nothing follows up the U R WHO U LET DIE EP and the Sexy But Not Happy full-length from 2012. Both releases are available for name-your-price download on Bandcamp. You can also view the video for “Sexy But Not Happy” here.

Modest may be a strange way to describe a band’s members and music, particularly one that falls neatly beneath punk-rock’s noisy umbrella. Nonetheless, almost everything about Orlando, FL’s Among Giants fits this designation. Of course, modesty doesn’t merely describe Among Giants; it’s their secret weapon. There’s no pretension in their story or in their simple desire to write and perform music from the heart, and it’s this mission that allows them to express the honesty that packs such an enormous and memorable punch. But Back And Forth not only epitomizes this power of modesty; it also captures a young band with the ability and audacity to wield it.

Back And Forth follows up the Among Giants’ split 7″ with Aspiga on Say-10 Records. As well, the band’s 2012 full-length,Truth Hurts, is available for name-your-price download on Bandcamp.

Is there a more joyous an occasion to a punk kid – other than THE FEST weekend itself – as when details of said festival are finally revealed and the first wave of confirmed artists begins to make the rounds? After months of bittersweet reminiscing about the amazing time you had at last year’s FEST, and the nearly unbearable anticipation of once again seeing all your favorite underground bands while sharing an adult beverage with what feels like a hundred of your best friends, it’s no wonder that days like today give us an extra bounce in our collective step.

On that note, it is with great excitement that we bring you the official launch of the THE FEST 13 website, along with a very special announcement that the legendary DESCENDENTS will be making a rare appearance at this year’s event.

THE FEST 13 will take place in Gainesville, FL over the course of three days (Oct 31, Nov 1, 2) and will feature over 250 of the best punk and independent bands in the world. In addition to Descendents, other confirmed outfits include Lifetime, Less Than Jake, Strike Anywhere, The Menzingers, Chixdiggit (CA) , Marked Men, Modern Life is War, The Slackers, Chuck Ragan, Into It. Stay tuned for more confirmed band announcements in the coming weeks.

On a related note, FEST organizers have also revealed information about BIG PRE-FEST IN LITTLE YBOR 2. Spanning two days (Oct 29 + 30) in the historic Tampa, FL neighborhood of Ybor City, Big Pre-Fest will host over 60 bands in four different venues. While all artists playing will also be performing at FEST 13 in Gainesville, many of these groups will be doing “special” sets in Tampa. More details on that soon. In the meantime, you can check out the full list of confirmed bands (so far) for BIG PRE FEST here.

ABOUT THE FEST

THE FEST is an independent multiple-day, multiple-venue underground music festival held annually in Gainesville, FL, with support from the fine folks at No Idea Records. In 2013, THE FEST celebrated 12 years and expanded to four days, as well as adding two days for the first annual BIG PRE-FEST IN LITTLE YBOR in the historic Ybor City neighborhood of Tampa, FL. FEST 12 hosted 400 bands in four days while BIG PRE-FEST gave 100 of those bands and close to 1,000 attendees another two days to enjoy the party in a new city.

2014 brings FEST to our 13th year and we expect our attendance to grow even more. Over 10,000 music lovers will converge on Florida to enjoy the beautiful fall weather and some of the best underground punk, hardcore, indie, and alt-country bands from all over the world. FEST will once again expand into Ybor City for BIG PRE-FEST IN LITTLE YBOR 2 (Oct 29 + 30) and return to the standard three days in Gainesville for FEST 13 (Oct 31, Nov 1, 2). 2014 will also find FEST working even closer with the city of Gainesville to add into their roster of venues, including the BO DIDDLEY PLAZA located in the heart of downtown. This additional venue will allow more attendees to enjoy the headliners and give FEST organizers an opportunity to utilize a larger space to grow the festival.

Last year, THE FEST 12 hosted 392 musical acts over four days at 12 venues in the heart of Gainesville – home of University of Florida. The total four day impact on Gainesville was 23,236 FEST wristband holders. 15% of attendees were non- US residents and 69% of attendees were not from Florida.

Established in 2002 with only 60 bands, four stages, and two days, THE FEST has experienced a massive growth rate, now finding the festival outgrowing the amazing city it was birthed in. The past five FESTs have sold out prior to the actual event! THE FEST also finds attendees and bands traveling to Florida from all over the world.

They put out their first EP, Dream Journal, in 2012, which promptly landed the band on AbsolutePunk’s Absolute 100 for the year. Pointing to the musical guidance of late ’90s and early aughts acts, the band injects a distinctly fresh perspective, heaviness, and mysticism to the genre. The duality of ‘Living Room’ reveals itself upon close listen to meticulously constructed themes on levels of lyricism and musicianship, empathetically and specifically reflecting the complexity, vicissitude, and euphoria of life.
