From death comes life. So goes the story of Crimes, the new band from ex-members of Static Radio NJ. As Static Radio was coming to an end in 2012, Crimes had already begun to take root. At Fest 11 the long running band played their last show under the Static Radio name. But, the final three members of Static Radio had been hatching plans, recording the Crimes debut EP even before that final Static Radio tour. Wanting a fresh start under a new name the three remaining members of Static Radio sound rejuvenated with Crimes. The band’s debut EP showcases a group revitalized by their new beginning and empowered by moving forward.

The band’s first shows will be playing both Banquets record releases in late May.

Black Numbers Welcomes The Here And Now (Alan Day from Four Year Strong)

• Born To Make Believe Part 1 Digital Release / Vinyl Coming Soon
• Artwork/Tracklisting Released
• Tour dates with What’s Eating Gilbert and Diamond Youth Announced

Black Numbers is excited to announce a partnership with The Here And Now, the new project from Four Year Strong co-song writer, Alan Day. The debut EP, Born To Make Believe Part 1, is now available as a Name-Your-Price Download. A vinyl release will be coming soon via Black Numbers as well.

The Here And Now wasn’t really supposed to be a band. It was a just a side of Four Year Strong’s co-song writer Alan Day that never made it to the surface. It is made up of years of song writing that just never felt quite right for the pop-punk styling of Four Year Strong. So, it eventually started to find its own identity, more and more songs were coming and there was no end in sight.

With influences spanning from Neil Young, Tom Petty, and The Beatles to bands like The Smashing Pumpkins and Nirvana; The Here And Now is a whirlwind of musical eras all smashed into one heaping pile of good old fashion rock and roll.

GALACTIC CANNIBAL Premiers First Track from Debut LP, WE’RE FUCKED

• Listen to an Exclusive Stream of “Invisible” at Punknews.org
• June 4 release on 12-inch vinyl from Underground CommuniqueLost Cat + Encapsulated Records
• Digital available from Hewhocorrupts Inc
• Upcoming shows / Stay Sweet Fest

GALACTIC CANNIBAL (Milwaukee, WI / Chicago, IL) is excited to announce that its debut full-length, We’re Fucked, will see a June 4, 2013 release on 12-inch vinyl from Underground CommuniqueLost Catand Encapsulated Records. The digital version of the album will be handled by Hewhocorrupts Inc.

To celebrate today’s news, the band and labels have teamed up with the venerable Punknews.org to premier a brand new track from the LP. Swing by the site to listen to an exclusive stream of the song “Invisible.”

Featuring Direct Hit! frontman Nick Woods on bass and his brother, noted Milwaukee noise artist Peter J Woods, on vocals, Galactic Cannibal cranks out nine bombastic cuts of hardcore punk that’s equal parts adrenaline, melody and sneering attitude. Self-described as “Misfits meets Man Is The Bastard” – but also bringing to mind groups such as Dillinger Four, Fucked Up and even Andrew WK – the quintet fires on all cylinders for the duration of its debut, pulling back only enough to let the fist-pounding rhythms, blazing guitar and catchy choruses take hold of the listeners’ eardrums.

Earlier this year Galactic Cannibal released a four-song EP digitally and on tape, which you can purchase or download for free on Bandcamp.

In other news, the five piece will be playing a handful of shows over the course of the next month, including an appearance this weekend at Stay Sweet Fest in Richmond, VA. As always, if you’d like to attend a show or speak with the band, drop me a line here. Stay tuned for more news, song premiers and pre-order information, and be sure to follow Galactic Cannibal on Facebook for daily updates.

——————————————————————————–

Tiny Engines (Dikembe, Restorations, Tigers Jaw) is excited to welcome Boston’s Save Ends to their burgeoning roster. The band will head into the studio later this month with Jay Maas(Title Fight, Transit, Polar Bear Club) to record their debut LP for Fall release on Tiny Engines. The upcoming LP will follow up the band’s highly acclaimed 2012 EP, Strength Vs. Will, which is available for name-your-price download on Bandcamp. You can also read a Track-By-Track feature for Strength Vs. Will on Alternative Press.

Featuring ex-members of No Trigger and Making It Right, Save Ends officially formed in the Summer of 2010. But, the group of friends were well acquainted beforehand, entrenched in an epic battle of Dungeons & Dragons together that is ongoing still. The band quickly wrote, recorded and released their debut EP, 2010′s Ten Or Better. Fast forward two years later to 2012′sStrength Vs. Will and the band’s sharp melodic songwriting had reached new, memorable heights. Complete with piano, dual male/female vocals and nerd-core lyrical content, Save Ends prepares to unleash their music far and wide, and bring harmony back to this world.

Banquets – Video Premiere on Alternative Press / New LP Available for Pre-Order on Black Numbers

By , 8 April, 2013, No Comment

BANQUETS - New LP Pre-Order From BLACK NUMBERS / Video Premiere on Alternative Press

• Self-Titled LP out 5/7/13 on Black Numbers / Pre-Orders available now
• “Call It A Comeback” Video Premiere on Alternative Press
• “Fade From Gold” streaming exclusively on Absolute Punk
• Upcoming Fest appearances & record release shows announced

——————————————————————————————————

You can now Pre-Order the sophomore LP from Jersey City’s Banquets from Black Numbers. The Self-Titled LP will see an official release date of May 7, 2013. This will be the follow-up to the band’s debut LP, Top Button, Bottom Shelf, which came out on Black Numbers in 2011.

To celebrate the band has also released a video for “Call It A Comeback” directed by Kevin Slack (Gaslight Anthem, Cursive, Bouncing Souls). The video is premiering exclusively on Alternative Press.

You can also hear “Fade From Gold” from the Self-Titled LP on Absolute Punk now.

Following up their brilliant debut LP, 2011′s Top Button, Bottom Shelf, Banquets return with a Self-Titled sophomore effort that continues the band’s no filler approach. Much like its predecessor,Self-Titled clocks in at 10 songs under 30 minutes but there is a bit more breathing room here as the band expands and hones their sound. Along with guitarist/vocalist, Dave Frenson and bassist Christ Larsen, the addition of Brian Maguire on drums has been key to the band’s growth. Lead singer, Travis Omilian, is the secret weapon though, hiding behind the band’s ultra tight melodic pop/punk. There is a worn romanticism and a nostalgic charm to Omilian’s lyrics. Combined with the band’s dynamic sense of urgency and uplifting spirit, Omilian’s lyrics give Banquets a depth that is rare to find in the genre these days. Self-Titled truly encompasses the band’s growth into a songwriting tour de force.

Places To Hide – Exclusive Song Premier at New Noise Magazine

By , 27 March, 2013, No Comment

PLACES TO HIDE Debuts New Track From ALMOST NOTHING LP

• Exclusive Stream: Listen to “October” at New Noise Magazine
• Debut LP out June 1, 2013 on 12-inch vinyl from Irrelevant Recordings
• One week remaining to contribute to Kickstarter campaign

PLACES TO HIDE has teamed up with upstart New Noise Magazine to premier a new track from its debut LP, ALMOST NOTHING. Go here to stream the song “October.”

Recorded at StudiLaroche in the band’s hometown of Atlanta, GA, Almost Nothing will be released on June 1, 2013 on 12-inch and digital formats by the group’s own Irrelevant Recordings. The LP will be limited to a pressing of 250 on black vinyl and pre-orders for the album will go live within the next few weeks. Places To Hide has also launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund the record. Go here to contribute. Only seven days remain!

On a related note, you can check out two additional new tracks from Almost Nothing. Go to Places To Hide’s Bandcamp to stream “Love Song” or watch the music video for “Michael Jordan,” which can be viewed on YouTube or Kickstarter.

Much like the city in which it resides, Atlanta’s Places To Hide boasts an undeniably soulful swagger. It’s gritty, loud and fun – and maybe just a bit reckless – but there’s also a sweetness and vulnerability to the outfit’s debut full-length, Almost Nothing, that tempers the danger with a slice of Southern charm and wide-eyed naivete … not to mention a heaping load of melody. Although Places To Hide has only been a full band for a year, it has quickly become one of the local DIY punk scene’s most exciting and talked-about up-and-comers. The new LP will only add to that fire, with irresistible songs that often feel like they’re careening out of control, but always steer themselves back to a catchy chorus, a rollicking guitar riff or a foot-stomping beat. Highly recommended for fans of Joyce Manor, Superchunk, Desaparecidos, and Swearin’.

Stay tuned for more news, song premiers and pre-order information in the coming month, and be sure to follow Places To Hide on Facebook and Tumblr for daily updates.

Tiny Engines Welcomes Frontier(s)

By , 26 March, 2013, 2 Comments

Tiny Engines To Release New 7″ From Frontier(s)

• Frontier(s) features members of Elliott, Falling Forward, Mouthpiece, The Enkindels
• Band set to record next week with Kevin Ratterman (My Morning Jacket, Young Widows, Coliseum)

——————————————————————————–

Tiny Engines (Dikembe, Restorations, Tigers Jaw) is excited to welcome Louisville, KY’s Frontier(s) to the family. The band will be recording 3-4 songs next week for a new 7″, to be released later this year on the Carolina-based label.

Frontier(s) features former Elliott / Falling Forward front man Chris Higdon and Matt Wieder (guitar) of Mouthpiece / The Enkindels. The new 7″ will follow up the band’s debut LP, There Will Be No Miracles Here, issued on Arena Rock and No Sleep in 2010. The band is set to record once again with Elliott / Wax Fang drummer Kevin Ratterman (My Morning Jacket, Young Widows, Coliseum) at La La Land Studios in the band’s hometown of Louisville, KY.

Much like the city it calls home, Frontier(s) is hopelessly Midwestern. Louisville never accepted east or west coast definitions of post-anything, and the quartet is no different. Serrating guitars, tightly wound bass, and dime-stop drums are the brick to Higdon’s mortar as he switches between airy tones and boot-shaking roar. The band channels enough hardcore angst and Husker Du-style buzzsaw guitar to make even the most jaded scenester flip their wig, while featuring pounding rhythms and a swirling wall of sound that land the listener somewhere smack in the middle of post-punk England and Washington D.C.’s Revolution Summer.

Be sure to follow Tiny Engines’ TumblrFacebook and Twitter pages for more exclusive news!

You can check out the exclusive premiere for “Fade From Gold” from the Self-Titled LP on Absolute Punk now.

If it ain’t broke don’t fix it. Certainly that can be said for LP2 from Banquets. Following up their brilliant debut LP, 2011′s Top Button, Bottom Shelf, Banquets return with a Self-Titled sophomore effort that continues the band’s no filler approach. Much like its predecessor, Self-Titled clocks in at 10 songs under 30 minutes and rarely comes up for air. This is amped up and ultra melodic pop/punk with a dynamic sense of urgency and uplifting spirit. The Jersey City boys surely know how to pump out the sing alongs and they do so with such a genuine and honest approach. This is believing against all odds. This is living your life without looking back. “Stay young, stay loud, stay brash and bold” as the lyrics go on the Self-Titled album closer, “Daggers”. Now that deserves a fist pump!

But, in actuality, these four close friends have been playing music together in one form or another for close to 15 years now. That cohesion certainly shines through on Everyone Stood By The Side Of The Road. Little Big League Joins Tiny Engines / Song Premiere on Absolute Punk

By , 12 March, 2013, No Comment

LITTLE BIG LEAGUE Joins Tiny Engines / Song Premiere On Absolute Punk

• Debut LP, These Are Good People, coming Summer of 2013 on Tiny Engines
• “My Very Own You” premiering on Absolute Punk
• Debut 7″ Single Available for Stream / Purchase
• Artwork & Tracklisting / More Song Premieres Coming Soon
• RIYL: Hop Along, Built To Spill, Sleater-Kinney, Now, Now

——————————————————————————–

Tiny Engines (Dikembe, Restorations, Tigers Jaw) is proud to welcome Philadelphia’s Little Big League to their expanding roster. The band recently recorded their debut full-length which the label will release in the Summer of 2013. You can stream the first single, “My Very Own You”, from the album, These Are Good People, at Absolute Punk.

As well, you can stream and/or purchase Little Big League’s debut 7″ single directly from Tiny Engines. The 7″ A-Side features an early recorded version of the track, “Tokyo Drift”, which will also appear on These Are Good People. Every 7″ purchase from Tiny Engines will receive an instant download for the first single from the LP, “My Very Own You,” along with the 7″ tracks as well. Artwork, tracklisting and more song premieres from the upcoming LP will be coming soon.

You can also check out live videos for “Tokyo Drift” as well as another album track, “Never Have I Ever Walked Away When The Time Was Right.”

In the Fall of 2011, Michelle Zauner and Kevin O’Halloran (previously of Post Post) joined forces with Ian Dykstra (Titus Andronicus) and Deven Craige (Strand of Oaks) to form Little Big League. Shortly thereafter the band recorded their debut 7″. Released in April of 2012, the two songs offered a glimpse into the band’s promising future, which after months of writing and playing live took solid form in their debut LP These Are Good People.

The band’s debt to 90s indie guitar rock is respectfully paid while Zauner’s gorgeously unique vocal stylings and striking lyrical imagery add to the album’s dark atmosphere. There is a level of tension and impending danger built, both lyrically and musically, that revels in the vulnerability of us all. These Are Good People is an album about coming of age, loss, and the overwhelming acceptance of reality over a failed romanticism. Due out this Summer on Tiny Engines, the album is a stunning indie rock debut from the Philadelphia quartet.

Signals Midwest Recording New Album For Tiny Engines

By , 7 March, 2013, 1 Comment

SIGNALS MIDWEST - Recording New Album for Summer Release on Tiny Engines

• New LP coming Summer of 2013 on Tiny Engines
• Latitudes And Longitudes LP 2nd pressing pre-order available now
• March/April shows announced / Band playing Stay Sweet Fest
• New Album Details Coming Soon

——————————————————————————————————

Cleveland, OH’s Signals Midwest is set to begin recording their new LP this weekend. The band will once again record at Bad Racket in Cleveland. The new album is expected to be released this Summer on Tiny Engines (Tigers Jaw, Dikembe, Restorations, Run, Forever). This will be the follow up to Signals Midwest’s highly-acclaimed sophomore album, Latitudes And Longitudes, which came out in the Fall of 2011. The 2nd pressing is now available for Pre-Order.

Frontman Max Stern had this to say about the new record:

I like making records because they’re both a reflection of where a band has been and where they’re at in that particular moment. Geographically, musically, mentally, – the setting and experience come through one way or another. I wrote these songs in a living room in Portland, in a basement in Brooklyn, at a bus station in Tel Aviv, in an attic in Cleveland, and in the back of a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan that may have been pretty much anywhere in the continental United States. Two years to the day after making our last record, we’re going back into the same studio to create something new. Contained within those two years have been incredible highs, crushing lows, long tours, practices, arguments, inside jokes, spectacular views, friends and lovers lost and found, and everything else that life seems to accumulate regardless of whatever the “plan” seems to be. I hope some of that experience shines through on this record, if only just to see where we’re at and where we might end up.

Rarely do you come across a young band that startles you with such inherent quality. While Cleveland, Ohio’s Signals Midwest might be rooted in the ethos of punk rock the band quickly transcends the tag both musically and lyrically on their sophomore album, Latitudes And Longitudes. Paying tribute to the continual growth of legends like Small Brown Bike and Fairweather while echoing the emotional tones of modern bands such as The Menzingers, Signals Midwest provide a unique perspective that resides firmly outside the punk-by-the-numbers formula. Call it post-pop/punk if you will.

Signals Midwest will be playing a few shows in March and April including Stay Sweet Fest in Richmond, VA. The band will hit the road hard this Summer in support of the upcoming LP.

Oddczar – New LP Available For Download / Tour Dates

ODDCZAR - New LP Available for Name Your Price Download

• One Word 12″ available now from Bitter Melody / Self Aware
• Stream/download One Word on Bandcamp
• Tour dates announced / Tour Flyer
• RIYL: Touché Amore, Pianos Become the Teeth, Taken, Saetia

——————————————————————————————————

Charlotte, NC hardcore act, Oddczar have put their recently released debut 12″, One Word, up for name-your-price download on Bandcamp for one week only. Oddczar’s brand of hardcore is recommended for fans of Touché Amore, Pianos Become the Teeth, Taken and Saetia. The album is a split release between Bitter Melody Records and Self Aware Records and the LP is limited to 300 copies on random colored vinyl.

There is something to be said about the originality and depth that can spring forth from innocence. Certainly youth can be seen as a blessing or curse when it comes to music. But, for Charlotte, NC hardcore act, Oddczar, there is something remarkably refreshing about their debut full-length, One Word While it is somewhat undefinable, where other bands seem content to follow in the footsteps of their influences, Oddczar feels noticeably different in that regard. You get the feeling Oddczar are trying to sound like no one but themselves and that simplicity (perhaps even naivety) is invigorating for a change.

The youthful passion that drips from One Word is spell-binding. Perhaps it is the heart-firmly-on-sleeve lyrical exorcism that checks your jaded cynicisms at the door and reassures you that drinking from the fountain of youth can in fact be rejuvenating. Or maybe it is the passionate music, echoing the schizophrenic nature of our times. There is a strange melodic underbelly to Oddczar’s madness that breathes you in amidst all the chaos. Simply put, there is no way not to feel these songs. One Word echoes how a personal relationship can mirror the uncertainty and anger of life itself. But there is a cathartic nature to the band as well. Oddczar prove that from the pain and uncertainty of youth can come a deeper clarity. One Word serves as a fitting reminder that age is only a number defined by oneself.

The band will also be playing some shows in the Southeast in support of One Word. Dates are listed below. Check the tour flyer HERE.

Cayetana Joins Tiny Engines

By , 27 February, 2013, No Comment

Cayetana Joins Tiny Engines

• Writing for Debut LP / Recording this Summer
• Demo EP featured on If You Make It
• Cayetana playing Waxahatchee release show/party with Swearin’ and Radiator Hospital
• Tom May of The Menzingers recommends…

——————————————————————————–

Tiny Engines (Dikembe, Restorations, Tigers Jaw) is thrilled to welcome Philadelphia’s Cayetana to their growing roster. The band debuted theirDemo EP in December 2012 and it was quickly met with rave reviews from the punk community. If You Make It recently featured Cayetana’s Demo in their albums section. You can download it for free (donations encouraged!)HERE.

Cayetana is currently writing and playing shows in preparation of recording their debut LP this Summer for Tiny Engines. A Fall release is tentatively scheduled for the album. On Friday, March 1st Cayetana will be a part of the Waxahatchee release show/party along with Swearin’ and Radiator Hospital at The Golden Tea House. More tour dates coming soon!

Long time listeners, first time callers “Cayetana” have been around the Philadelphia music scene for quite a while. These three ladies came together about a year ago, which also happens to be when they started playing their instruments. This has let them develop a chemistry that takes other bands years to achieve, if at all. They’ve jumped head first with their clothes on into the pool at the raging party that is the Philadelphia punk scene. Their self-released demo/e.p. is quite the piece of ear candy. The contemplative and sometimes poignant lyrics delivered in a sincere and oft-urgent croon are perfectly complimented with a locked-in rhythm section comprising of melodious bass lines and driven, hoppy work on the skins. You can expect to hear a lot more from Cayetana in the coming months. Have a listen.
