Remember when Nothing Feels Good was the soundtrack to your summer road trips and Frame And Canvas was the album you couldn’t wait to play for your friends? Better yet, think back to a time when that divisive three letter word had absolutely nothing to do with overwrought teenage theatrics or Hot Topic fashion. It’s always a commendable to pay homage to better, bygone eras, which is why we love bands like Philly’s Everyone Everywhere for making it okay to celebrate late 90′s emo again.
A Lot Of Weird People Standing Around boasts four crunchy, catchy gems that revel in repetitive guitar chords and acrobatic fingerpicking. The rhythms are propulsive and animated, the tone is warm and bright and the vocals are delivered with restrained confidence. For something seemingly straightforward, Everyone Everywhere jams a ton of dynamics and plenty of surprises into a joyous 12 minute package.
Limited to 200 (100 blue / 100 clear), this enthusiastic little 7-inch is unabashedly fun, carefree and bouncy, yet it never sounds like Everyone Everywhere is taking their craft less seriously than other bands. They’re the dudes that kick off the keg party, but with whom you find yourself with later that night, tangled deep in conversations about anything from movies to art to summer bike rides and even broken thermostats.
A Lot Of Weird People Standing Around was recorded by Mike Bardzik (Kill Your Idols, Lighten Up, The Casualties, The Boils) at Second Story Sound Studios in West Chester, PA. The 7-inch was released by Evil Weevil Records on April 7, 2009. The band also self-released an EP in 2008 titled Pants and is currently writing songs for a debut full-length.
