You can hear two early demos from the upcoming album at the Cattle Drums Bandcamp.

The band’s debut LP will be the follow up to The Boy Kisser Sessions + 3 EP which was released digitally on Tiny Engines in 2011. The Boy Kisser Sessions + 3 is an eight song collection that put together the original debut of the band with three newer tracks that were recorded near the end of 2010. The EP can be downloaded for free here. Of course you can still download via iTunes as well.

You can sample the track “Who Punched Pat Moore’s Face” on RCRD LBL. Additionally, you can listen to “Sluts And Coconuts” from The Boy Kisser Sessions + 3 (mp3)

Remember when indie music was wild and unpredictable? Remember when bands were hard to pigeonhole into neat little sub-genres? Well, Cattle Drums will remind you if you have forgotten. Hailing from upstate NY, you might shrug your shoulders at a band named Cattle Drums but you would be remiss by doing so. Mixing post-punk, emo/hardcore, shards of math rock and even traces of dark Americana, Cattle Drums distinguish themselves as purveyors of a sound not yet recognizable to our pampered, innocent ears. Lyrically ambiguous and instrumentally ambitious with harsh, aggressive tones, Cattle Drums truly are a wild awakening for the senses. These songs truly defy classification and open the listener up to create their own unique interpretation of the Cattle Drums sound. Need a shock to the system to break you from the mundane of the daily grind? Delve into the madness of the Cattle Drums experience and witness a band operating only by their keen sense of artistic expression. Eccentric and chaotic yet always melodic and intoxicating, Cattle Drums are kicking up dust and noise unlike anybody else right now. Just imagine what is yet to come.

You probably haven’t heard anything quite like Cattle Drums before. – RockFreaks.net
Some of the more wildly unpredictable and yet melodic stuff I’ve heard all year and it’s got promise written all over it. – Punknews.org
Almost conversational in tone in the vein of Say Anything (absent the whining, don’t fret), the vocals add a nice touch to an aggressive and unpredictable take on melody. – RCRD LBL
There’s an obvious musical intelligence on offer here, and ‘The Boy Kisser Sessions’ is a rare little treat. – Punktastic
The New York band play an energetic and refreshing blend of post-hardcore and punk that will appeal to fans of bands like At The Drive-In or Bear Vs. Shark. – Two Way Monologues
Cattle Drums are a post-punk band with all the right influences, Fugazi, Dismemberment Plan and earlier At The Drive In all come to mind. – Clean Cut
Reveling in heartfelt passions and rollicking rhythms, The Boy Kisser Sessions + 3 is a kinetic eight-song record that calls to mind early mewithoutYou, At The Drive-In, and that exciting, vibrant era of indie guitar rock as second-wave emo was flirting openly with punk and hardcore music. – Dryvetyme Onlyne

For a limited time, Translation is being offered for a Pay-What-You-Want Download here.

The 12″ vinyl for Homelife’s Translation is limited to 500 on black vinyl and is available for Order now. The first two singles from the record are streaming now. You can hear “Viewfinder” on Alternative Press while “Unsteady Hands” is streaming on Stereokiller. You can also listen to a full album stream of Translation on Punknews.org.

Carrying the torch for rugged Midwest bands into the next generation of punk rock, Homelife is expanding upon its forebears with 2012 full-length debut, Translation. Since forming in 2009 in the same rugged plains and college towns around Lansing, MI as like-minded acts such as Small Brown Bike and Cheap Girls, the band’s debut full-length album marks not only a progression for Homelife and its members’ roots in hardcore acts, but for the genre itself.

Translation follows up Homelife’s 2011 split with Bike Tuff as well as their 2009 Demo. Both can be downloaded for free here.

While the members’ hardcore background is still on display in some aspects of Translation (most of the songs clock-in the 2:30 range and sound best played LOUD), the sparkling and sharply-cut dynamics on display have set the ideal background for Weston’s unique delivery and lyrics that throwback to the sincerity of 90’s favorites such as Jawbreaker, Knapsack (whom the band covers here), and The Promise Ring. Taking a number of sonic risks, beyond what its peers may have been comfortable with, represented a monstrous swing from Homelife and a clear homerun with Translation, which is almost certain to gain traction one of the best surprise debut LP’s in punk rock that 2012 will have to offer.

Joining the five piece on tour will be label mates Astpai.

As always, if you’d like to attend a show or speak with the band, drop me a line here.

In other news, One Win Choice was recently featured in Episode 2 of a video series from D.I. Wireless Podcast titled “”Fest or Bust Tour,” which chronicles a road trip to last year’s 10th anniversary of FEST in Gainesville, FL, as well as all the bands and people that make the event so unique. You can watch interviews and live footage of One Win Choice – as well as Restorations, The Great Explainer and The Bouncing Souls – here. Episode 1 can be viewed here.

On a related note, One Win Choice has been confirmed for FEST 11.

Channeling the ethos and intensity of bands such as Strike Anywhere and Refused, and and combining melodic elements not unlike Rise Against or A Wilhelm Scream, Philly’s One Win Choice is a bastion of everything hardcore punk should strive to be. Conveyor burns with an underlying fire and passion, and the term “sonic annihilation” comes to mind more than once during the album’s 33 minute run time. Still, this explosive full-length also frames a group of individuals who have grown immensely as songwriters; these 13 tracks are meticulously crafted, underscored by thought-provoking lyrics and a palpable sincerity.

The punk label will issue the Tallahassee, FL outfit’s newest full-length, Networks, on June 18th, 2012 in the UK, while Lipona will self-release the album Stateside.

Networks will be available digitally and as a 12″ LP, with the latter being limited to 250 on white vinyl. Stay tuned for pre-orders, which will launch in a few weeks.

To celebrate today’s announcement, Disconnect Disconnect and Lipona have teamed up with Alternative Press for an exclusive debut of the song “Breakthrough.” To stream the first single from Networks, go here.

Networks is the follow-up to Lipona’s critically acclaimed 2009 EP, Pigeonholed (available for free download), as well as the band’s debut long-player, Atlas (2008). While previous releases have been outward-looking and pseudo-philosophical, Networks finds the four piece treading more personal waters, such as coping with loss and the delicate balance of musical ambition with the transition into adulthood.

Lipona’s sound, however, remains firmly anchored in the technically precise, fiery punk rock that first attracted us to the Florida quartet nearly four years ago. Scorching riffs and a pummeling rhythm section remind the listener that thrash-y, hardcore-inspired skatepunk is alive and well, yet front man Yamil Velez’s vocals soar through shimmering choruses and introspective instrumental passages. Perhaps Lipona’s most noteworthy attribute is its ability to temper the relentless, forward-moving attack with a seemingly unending infusion of melody and atmosphere. Simply put, Networks is the continuing evolution of Lipona’s inspiring, progressive hybrid-punk sound.

You can hear a brand new song, “Choices” on Punknews.org. Also, “American Me” can be heard on Alternative Press as well. The band was recently named as one of Alternative Press’ 100 Bands You Need To Know in 2012 along with fellow Tiny Engines labelmates, Signals Midwest (Issue #285).

Three years in the making, Red Collar’s Welcome Home fulfills the promise of the band’s acclaimed debut full-length, 2009′s Pilgrim. Welcome Home continues the tradition of heart pounding indie punk & roll from the Durham, NC quartet but expands the palette with dynamic results. Red Collar combine the jagged rhythms of DC punk along with the soulful, working class spirit and lyrical bend of bands like The Hold Steady and The Gaslight Anthem. Never shying away from their influences, the band proudly displays the earnestness of Springsteen, the boldness of The Replacements and the swagger of The Clash firmly on their sleeves. All that you know and love about Red Collar remains but Welcome Home opens up into hauntingly beautiful songwriting territory that touches on the timelessness of Americana roots. Red Collar is back and they are better than ever! Welcome home indeed.

Red Collar will be playing Treasure Fest in Charlotte, NC later this month sandwiched in between a show with Less Than Jake and their LP release show in Durham with labelmates Restorations and Signals Midwest. The band will also be playing Death To False Hope Fest in June and are confirmed, once again, for The Fest in Gainesville in October.

The label is excited to announce the band’s debut, The EP LP, is now available for pre-order on one-sided 12″ vinyl. The 12″ will see a June 19, 2012 release date. Also worth noting, all vinyl pre-orders come with an instant mp3 download for the 9-song album. The album is also available for early digital purchase here. You can stream the entire record on Bandcamp.

The The EP LP 12″ vinyl is limited to 500 pressed on three colorways (75 Yellow / 175 Black w/ screened B-side / 250 Translucent Green). All pre-orders will be entered to win a test pressing of the record. There are also vinyl combo packs and vinyl + tee packages available.

Featuring current/former members of Light The Fuse And Run, Wow, Owls!, Weak Teeth and Jesuscentric, Best Practices is a return to the fundamentals of punk rock. On the band’s Tiny Engines debut, The EP LP, the quartet lets loose a whirlwind of (garage power pop) punk fury. Recorded with Will Killingsworth (Orchid, Ampere) at Dead Air Studios, Best Practices pummel their way through 9 songs in 12 glorious minutes. The band comes close to careening off the edge at points but never seem to overtake themselves. Chock full of razor sharp hooks Best Practices lays down a furious gauntlet that is as catchy as it is exhausting. All your left with as The EP LP fires towards the finish line is the feeling that you just want to do it all over again.

Best Practices have some confirmed hometown shows upcoming and will be swinging South down to VA and back up through Philly in August (details to come). The band has also been confirmed for The Fest in Gainesville in October. Also, the band will be heading back into Dead Air Studios in late June/early July to record new material. Stay tuned!

To celebrate today’s announcement, Bright & Barrow and The Scutches have teamed up with AMP Magazine for an exclusive stream of the song “Summer Night.” To listen to, go here.

You can also stream the album’s first single, “Don’t Go,” via Alternative Press.

Influenced by the likes of pop-punk heavyweights such as The Queers and The Methadones – not to mention the sweet sounds of legends like Buddy Holly and Richie Valens – The Scutches has been the primary songwriting vehicle for Vincenzo Hoffer (guitar, bass, vocals) and Rich da Silva (drums, backup vocals) over the course of the last decade. Ten Songs, Ten Years is an virtual pop-punk classic in every way; from the instantly memorable choruses and undeniably infectious harmonies to the propulsive rhythm section that pushes along the blissful power-chord buzz of the guitars. The lyrics cover standard themes of love and heartbreak and just about everything in between, but Hoffer’s clever songwriting is delivered with just the right combination of sincerity and bite, keeping things interesting and fun throughout the album’s 26 minute run time. There’s nothing complicated about Ten Songs, Ten Years but that won’t keep this pop-punk gem it from finding a permanent spot in your collection next to other great records from the genre’s forefathers and contemporaries alike.
