For all STATIC RADIO NJ’s accomplishments and acclamations over the past year – touring the U.S. with The Bouncing Souls, Lifetime and The Ergs, garnering a spot at the Hot Water Music reunion show and a tour of Europe to boot, all piled on the release of an acclaimed debut EP that reminded critics and fans alike that East Coast hardcore punk was not only alive, it was thriving – there was still a sense that the New Brunswick, New Jersey four piece was on the brink of something truly amazing and substantial. One For The Good Guys was certainly an invigorating blast of raw, explosive energy, but seven blazing songs in nine
minutes tends to leave people wanting more.

Enter more…or as I like to call it, An Evening Of Bad Decisions. The debut full-length from Static Radio NJ not only delivers on the foundation of the band’s early achievements, it proudly builds a towering skyscraper of soaring melodic punk rock anthems on top of it.

Songs like “Marc,” “Places” and “The Waiting Game” overflow with crunchy riffs, buoyant rhythms an choruses that are so infectious it’s easy to see that spending time on the road with their peers really rubbed off on Static Radio NJ. Of course, those barnburners are still fueled by the band’s hardcore roots, and the buzz saw wave of razor-sharp guitars and rapid-fire drum fills only make the passionate melodies resonate that much more brightly. Even SRNJ’s more aggressive, in-your-face offerings such as “Bothered,” “Ferren Decks” and “Standing Still” manage to keep it catchy amidst the raucous, no-frills sonic attack.

An Evening Of Bad Decisions feels like the album we all hoped Static Radio NJ would make…which is even more impressive considering the bar was set so high so early on. As much as they’ve succeeded in a short period of time though, the record is only a prelude to the next chapter in the band’s exciting history.

Static Radio NJ is Little Mike (guitar), Vic (bass), Mike (vocals) and Chris (drums). An Evening Of Bad Decisions was produced, engineered and mixed in February of 2008 by Will Putney at acclaimed production company The Machine Shop (Armor For Sleep, Boys Night Out, Every Time I Die) in Hoboken, New Jersey. The record will be released via Black Numbers on July 8th, 2008. The band’s debut EP, One For The Good Guys, was produced by Stephen Egerton of Descendents fame and originally released as a 7” on Chunksaah Records. The CD version – containing two additional tracks – was released by Black Numbers in August of 2007.
