Youth always deals in the extremes and Museum Mouth‘s stream of consciousness relays that moody energy perfectly. At one moment we long for youth and its comforting simplicity and the next we thank god we never have to endure that blinding awkwardness ever again. Therein lays the appeal of Museum Mouth’s Tears In My Beer. The album title as well as the band’s refreshing brand of fuzzed out indie punk scream out with youthful abandon!
Museum Mouth occupies that thin line where indie rock and pop/punk meet. Dual male/female vocals might echo pop/punk of the past but the band sets itself apart by incorporating more noisy tendencies. The raw recording style adds to the separation but remains completely flattering to the band’s ramshackle sound. With lyrics like “when the going gets tough, I’m gonna go to the beach” how can you not find the band’s spirit intoxicating? Yet there is a mature depth in the band’s living-in-the-moment style that only adds to the attraction. On Tears In My Beer, Museum Mouth makes a beautiful noise that echoes youth in all its subdued glory, pain and confusion.
