Outclassed This Might Be Coincidence… LP (Forcefield)

Release Date: January 27, 2009
There’s no real good way to ease yourself into the twisted, careening, crashing noise-fest that is This Might Be Coincidence… You’re either ready for OUTCLASSED, in all its dirty and disorderly math-rock-cum-hardcore glory, or you’re not. Make no mistake though – these five blistering songs go straight for the jugular, pummeling your ears with disjointed rhythms, manic guitars and abrasive vocals, but not before the band drops a few tiny breadcrumbs of melody, keeping things enjoyably unpredictable for everyone involved.
Throw a cobra and a mongoose in a gravel pit, give them both rusty chainsaws, two shots of tequila and you might get an idea of what This Might Be Coincidence… sounds like. Either that, or provide Outclassed with a permanent home in your record collection next to bands such as Orchid, Swing Kids, My Lai, Ampere and Brainworms and you’re in the right ballpark. Classifications aside, there’s not much time to catch your breath here as the Pittsburgh, P.A. five piece keeps a feverish pace and follows a decidedly schizophrenic, non-linear path. Writhing, sinuous guitars slice through layers of distortion and feedback while the off-kilter stomp of the rhythm section spews frenetic beats in every direction. What keeps these songs a mere shoestring away from total destruction is beyond me; maybe it’s Outclassed’s perfect balance of chaos, technicality and the frenetic energy that fuels it all.
Outclassed is Garett, Ben, Zach, Jon and Justin. This Might Be Coincidence…was recorded by Sean Corbett and produced by Garett Mount. 500 copies of this one-sided 12-inch were pressed on half white / half black vinyl. The album will be released by Forcefield Records on January 27, 2009. For more info, go to www.myspace.com/outclassed or www.forecefieldrecords.org.
