LUTHER – SXSW Tour (MAR 10 – MAR 24)
——————————————————————————————————

* In support of Siblings & Sevens & 4-Way Split
* Both releases available now on Black Numbers
* Shows with Hot Water Music, The Menzingers, Cheap Girls, Braid, The Sidekicks, etc.

——————————————————————————————————

Luther (Philadelphia, PA) are heading out on tour in support of the band’s newest release, the 4-Way Split with The Copyrights, Grey Area & The Reveling released on Black Numbers recently. The tour will also be in support of their 2011 release, Siblings & Sevens. Luther will be playing shows with an outstanding itinerary of bands that includes Hot Water Music, The Menzingers, Cheap Girls, Braid, The Sidekicks, Signals Midwest and Captain, We’re Sinking.

You can check out the full album stream of the 4-Way Split on Punknews now as well as the exclusive song stream for Luther’s “The Door Is A Penthouse” which is streaming at AMP.

Forming in late 2010 Luther bring back memories of a simpler and more organic time in rock music. While making no attempts to hide their punk rock roots Luther replace the overt aggression flooding the current world of punk with passion and a sincere sense of urgency. Living in South Philadelphia, Luther’s exposure to the city’s diverse music scene creates a varied sound that results in a refreshing mixture of indie, punk rock, post-hardcore and pop. Luther’s brand of songwriting comes with a natural nervousness that is layered with harmonies and an abstract approach to lyrics, all on top of a driving and unified rhythm section.

You can download the tour poster here. As always, if you’d like to attend a show or speak with the band, please drop me a line here.

The Haunted Continents / Owlbiter – New Digital Single Out Now (Free Download)

THE HAUNTED CONTINENTS / OWLBITER – Digital Single Out Now

• Available for Free / Name-Your-Price Download
• 7″ vinyl coming soon from Forest Park Recordings

——————————————————————————–

Let’s see if you can keep this straight: The Haunted Continents is fronted by James Downes with drummer Matt Cascella keeping time. Owlbiter is fronted by Matt Cascella, accompanied by James Downes on guitar. Confusing, right? Not really – but to make it even more simple, let’s just say you download the new split single from both bands and let your ears figure it out.

Available for free / name-your-price download from Forest Park Recordings – which is also planning a 7″ vinyl version of the split – this digital single features one song from each band and is the follow-up to The Haunted Continents’ The Loudest Year Ever and Owlbiter’s Black Crackers, both of which were released in 2011.

With “Petie and the Gate, “The Haunted Continents contributes more of that sweet, stripped-down mix of ’50s soul and fuzzed-out ’90s alternative that made its 2011 debut LP, The Loudest Year Ever, so fun and memorable. On the (virtual) flip side, Owlbiter chimes in with the bouncy, ’80s pop-tinged indie rocker “Trampoline,” which is infinitely charming, infectious and just a little peculiar. Both tracks were recorded, mixed and mastered with Dave Downham (Young Statues, It’s A King Thing, By Surprise) at Gradwell House Recording in Haddon Heights, NJ.

Two songs. Two bands. Two buddies. James and Matt are The Haunted Continents. Matt and James are Owlbiter. The former plays the the catchiest rock and roll with the fewest moving parts possible. Roy Orbison and Buddy Holly had it going on and the HCs take a serious cue from the legends. Out came the big choruses and moving verses and the band continues to stay true to that grand original ideology: pain and heartbreak sounds so sweet when it’s played loud. As for the latter, imagine if Randy Newman was born in the 80s and had an illegitimate music baby with Stephen Malkmus. The infinitely strange mind of singer and lyricist Matt Cascella is as magnetic as it is hilarious. Three minutes alone with Owlbiter will leave your face exhausted from smiling and your mind yearning one spin after another.

Red Collar Joins Tiny Engines

RED COLLAR joins TINY ENGINES / New LP Out Summer 2012
——————————————————————————————————

* Welcome Home To Be Released 6/12/12
* Band named one of Alternative Press’ 100 Bands You Need To Know in 2012
* Artwork / Tracklisting coming soon

——————————————————————————————————

Tiny Engines (Tigers Jaw, CSTVT, Look Mexico, Restorations) is honored to welcome Durham, NC rock band Red Collar to its roster. The Carolina-based label will release the band’s sophomore full-length, Welcome Home, on 12″ vinyl this summer. Welcome Home is the follow up to the band’s debut full-length, 2009′s Pilgrim. Pre-orders for the vinyl will begin in May with an official release date set for June 12, 2012.

The band was recently named as one of Alternative Press’ 100 Bands You Need To Know in 2012 along with fellow Tiny Engines labelmates, Signals Midwest. The issue (#285) hits streets in early March!

Three years in the making, Red Collar’s Welcome Home fulfills the promise of the band’s acclaimed debut full-length, 2009′s Pilgrim. Welcome Home continues the tradition of heart pounding indie punk & roll from the Durham, NC quartet but expands the palette with dynamic results. Red Collar combine the jagged rhythms of DC punk along with the soulful, working class spirit and lyrical bend of bands like The Hold Steady and The Gaslight Anthem. Never shying away from their influences, the band proudly displays the earnestness of Springsteen, the boldness of The Replacements and the swagger of The Clash firmly on their sleeves. All that you know and love about Red Collar remains but Welcome Home opens up into hauntingly beautiful songwriting territory that touches on the timelessness of Americana roots. Red Collar is back and they are better than ever! Welcome home!

Stay tuned for final artwork/tracklisting as well as upcoming song premieres. Also, be sure to follow Tiny Engines’ Tumblr, Facebook and Twitter pages for more exclusive news upcoming.

“As hard as it has become to forge an original sound in any scene these days, Red Collar have done a nice job in carving out a new niche with Pilgrim.” Punknews.org
“To be eloquent: this shit needs to be played loud! “Consequence of Sound
“Stocked with highlights, Pilgrim—a dynamic departure that shows Red Collar is as capable of measured albums as it is explosive shows—counts as a triumph.”Indy Week
“This Durham, NC band follows up their promising initial EP with an even better debut album, injecting the EP’s anthemic, post-hardcore sound reminiscent of Fugazi and Mission of Burma with a healthy dose of blue-collar Springsteen rock, a natural fit for the band’s class-conscious idealism, expressed in catchy songs with bristling guitar hooks and shouted gang choruses.”KEXP
“The band from Durham, North Carolina delivers an amazing, ambitious, and surprisingly complex album that combines jagged post-punk with heartland Americana that would make Springsteen smile. Pilgrim is one-of-a-kind and one heck of an exciting listen. One of 2009′s best for sure.”Can You See The Sunset

State Faults – New Song Premiere / Album Artwork & Tracklisting Revealed

STATE FAULTS – Debut New Song / Release Artwork & Tracklisting
——————————————————————————————————

* Desolate Peaks to be released by Tiny Engines in April
* Pre-order coming soon
* Artwork/Tracklisting Released
* Exclusive Song Premier for “Sleeptalker” on Alternative Press

——————————————————————————————————

Tiny Engines (Tigers Jaw, CSTVT, Look Mexico, Restorations) welcomed Santa Rosa, CA’s State Faults (formerly Brother Bear) into its fold late last year. The band has completed their debut full-length, Desolate Peaks, and the record will be released on 12″ vinyl in April 2012 with pre-orders coming soon.

You can hear a brand new song, “Sleeptalker”, on Alternative Press right now!

You can also stream another new song, “Arrowhead”, from Desolate Peaks, on Bandcamp.

Written over the span of close to a year, Desolate Peaks, is the debut full-length from State Faults. The band delivers on the album title imagery with an intense emotional landscape rarely traveled. Drawing upon elements of 90′s emo and post-hardcore, State Faults is explosive but not to the extent where it overpowers the nuances of the band’s songwriting. These songs are always able to breathe to their full potential. The band is adventurous and always pushing forward but never choose to wallow in grandiosity. On Desolate Peaks State Faults is able to find a perfect balance between craft and composition.

Desolate Peaks will be the follow up to the band’s debut EP, Head In The Clouds, which can still be downloaded for free here.

Formed in early 2010, State Faults consists of four soulmates with a DIY ethic trying to make honest and emotionally charged music. Huddled together in the California heat, the band created a tightly knit sound which gave birth to an impressive self-released debut EP, Head In The Clouds. Released in late 2010, the EP quickly spread through word of mouth and the band began to cultivate a devoted following. In what can only be described as an advancement of the sound created on Head In The Clouds, the band’s Tiny Engines debut, Desolate Peaks, takes State Faults to new uncharted levels.

Be sure to follow Tiny Engines’ Tumblr, Facebook and Twitter pages for more exclusive news over the next few months.
