Better Days Records (Handguns, Stickup Kid, Latin For Truth) is excited to welcome Placeholder (MD/PA) to their roster. Formerly known as Coastal, the band recently changed their name to avoid any legal complications. The band’s debut album as Placeholder, entitled Nothing Is Pure, will be released by the Olympia, WA based label on December 20, 2011.

There is an exclusive stream for the album track, “What This Means”, now live on Property of Zack. You can check that out here.

You can also watch the video for the album’s first single, “Resent”, here. The video was shot and edited by Sam Krepps of Manhouse Media.

Placeholder originally formed under the moniker Coastal in March 2011. After playing together in various bands in the past, the quartet quickly bonded and began writing/recording. The band’s first demo/EP, Demonstration, was released just two months later in May of 2011. Placeholder entered the studio in September of 2011 to record their debut full-length for Better Days. Playing emotionally intense post-hardcore, Placeholder make a giant splash on their proper debut. Delivering on the promise of their earlier demo, the band strikes a chord with their heavy and melodic brand of songwriting. Nothing Is Pure echoes modern bands such as Balance & Composure and Polar Bear Club while paying homage to their past influences. Mature, focused and full of determination, Placeholder leave quite the first impression with Nothing Is Pure.

The band will head out in support of Nothing Is Pure in December. Dates will be announced soon. More exclusive song premieres to come as well!

Signals Midwest recently unveiled the video for “The Quiet Persuader” off Latitudes And Longitudes. You can watch the exclusive premier of the video courtesy of Alternative Press. The video was directed/edited by Aaron Freeder.

Rarely do you come across a young band that startles you with such inherent quality. While Cleveland, Ohio’s Signals Midwest might be rooted in the ethos of punk rock the band quickly transcends the tag both musically and lyrically on their sophomore album, Latitudes And Longitudes. Paying tribute to the continual growth of legends like Small Brown Bike and Fairweather while echoing modern bands such as Balance And Composure and The Menzingers, Signals Midwest provide a unique perspective that resides firmly outside the punk-by-the-numbers formula. Call if post-pop/punk if you will.

Listen to “Limnology” from Latitudes And Longitudes (mp3)

Signals Midwest formed in late 2008 as a trio and issued their first full-length album in 2009. In 2010 the band expanded to a quartet with the addition of a second guitar player. That would be a pivotal move in the band’s collaborative development. Experimenting with and expanding their sound, Signals Midwest quickly outgrew the standard pop/punk pace. With 2011’s Latitudes And Longitudes there is a fleshed out maturity that shines through. Recorded mostly live, the album bristles with the kind of energy and purpose that emanates from a band confidently growing comfortable in their own skin.

DIKEMBE Joins TINY ENGINES

• Debut LP Broad Shoulders out early 2012
• Exclusive song stream @ Alternative Press
• Live Video: “Sorry I Can’t Stick Around
• Limited-edition tape (Jeremy Records) available @ FEST

——————————————————————————–

Tiny Engines (Tigers Jaw, CSTVT, Look Mexico, Restorations) is stoked to welcome Gainesville, FL’s Dikembe to its growing family of bands. The label will release the quartet’s debut full-length, Broad Shoulders, on 12″ vinyl and digital formats in early 2012. Pre-orders will launch at the beginning of December.

Featuring front man Steven Gray and bassist Ryan Willems from fellow Tiny Engines roster mates Wavelets – as well as members of Senders (Kiss of Death) and The Young Hookers – Dikembe is putting the final touches on the 11-song LP, which is its first official physical release. Earlier this year the outfit released a free digital EP, Chicago Bowls, to a good amount of blogosphere and message board acclaim. You can download those four songs here.

To celebrate today’s announcement, the band and label have teamed up with the folks at Alternative Press to debut the song “Librarians Kill For That Kind Of Quiet” Swing by the site and listen to the exclusive stream of this brand new track here.

While we’re on the topic of new cuts from Broad Shoulders, Dikembe recently premiered a live video at Punknews.org for “Sorry I Can’t Stick Around.” Shot by Jeremy Silveira at Turkey Town in Gainesville, go here to watch the band kill it with a live version of what will be the album closer. Additionally, this past summer four piece contributed “That’s How What Works” to the Topshelf Records 2011 Label Sampler. This compilation features some of the very best of the underground emo / punk scenes, including CSTVT, Pianos Become The Teeth, Touché Amoré, Moving Mountains, Restorations, Balance And Composure, La Dispute, Grown Ups, Everyone Everywhere, Bars Of Gold and much much more. To download the track from Dikembe and 67 other amazing songs, go here.

In related news, Dikembe will be making a hometown appearance at The FEST this weekend. The boys play at Loosey’s on Sunday at 7:40 p.m. alongside fellow Tiny Engines outfit Restorations, as well as Nightlights, Junior Battles, Dig It Up, Failures Union and more. Dikembe will have copies of a “FEST-exclusive” cassette tape from Jeremy Records titled Every Time You See Me I Look Like I Hit The Lotto Twice. The tape is limited to 30 copies and includes two new songs from Broad Shoulders, the four tracks from Chicago Bowls as well as offerings from six other Florida bands you should be listening to.

Finally, it’s worth noting that a big chunk of the Tiny Engines’ roster (Tigers Jaw, Look Mexico, Annabel, Wavelets, the previously mentioned Restorations and of course, Dikembe) will be playing at FEST this weekend. For a quick recap and show details, go here. Check em out and say hi for us!

WAVELETSPre-Order Debut Full-Length from Tiny Engines

Athaletics 12″ LP out Nov 29, 2011
• Digital release today via Bandcamp + iTunes
• Download free mp3s from RCRD LBL + PureGrainAudio
• Test pressing contest, limited-edition prints, FEST show + more!

——————————————————————————–

Athaletics, the debut full-length from Gainesville, FL’s Wavelets is now available for pre-order from Tiny Engines (Tigers Jaw, CSTVT, Look Mexico, Restorations). The 12″ LP will see a November 29, 2011 release date, while the digital version is out today via Bandcamp and iTunes. It’s also worth noting that all vinyl pre-orders come with an instant mp3 download for the 9-song album.

Pressed on 180 gram vinyl, Athaletics is limited to 500 on three colorways (75 clear / 150 transparent red / 275 black) and includes a hand-screened insert and an mp3 download code. The first 50 pre-orders will receive a limited-edition, hand-screened print with exclusive artwork by Wavelets’ drummer, Lee Kraft. Additionally, all pre-orders will be entered to win a test pressing of the record.

Tiny Engines and Wavelets recently teamed up with RCRD LBL and PureGrainAudio.com to give away two new tracks from Athaletics. Download free mp3s for “Cannonball” and “Cam Taylor Is So American Kushball” here and here.

Additionally, Wavelets was recently included on the Topshelf Records 2011 Label Sampler. This compilation features some of the very best of the underground emo / punk scenes, including Pianos Become The Teeth, Touché Amoré, Moving Mountains, Balance And Composure, La Dispute, Grown Ups, Bars Of Gold and much much more … not to mention most of the Tiny Engines Roster as well. To download “My Dad The Manatee” from Wavelets, plus 67 other amazing songs, go here.

Recorded by Matt Finch and Ryan Williams at Black Bear Studios (Hot Water Music, Chris Wollard, City Of Ships), Athaletics traverses nine tracks of somersaulting, emotionally charged indie rock (let’s just call it emo) that initially feels a little out of place in relation to the tuneful, gruff punk that Gainesville and its bearded denizens have become known for. Still, great music transcends scenes, genres and geographical limitations; in that sense Wavelets is thriving with its boundless energy and freewheeling, friends-first attitude … not to mention the outfit’s ability to create music that is both intricately complex and instantly catchy. It’s this unique blend of technicality and structural ingenuity that initially grabs our attention, but it’s Athaletics comforting nostalgia and sense of fun that really wins us over and begs for repeat spins. Recommended for fans of Algernon Cadwallader, Street Smart Cyclist and Weatherbox.

Since its 2009 inception, Wavelets has self-released a handful of digital EPs and singles, as well as a 7″ split with hometown brethren, Senders. To download the band’s full discography, go here. Also, if you have an extra minute, do yourself a favor and download the new EP from Dikembe, which features Wavelets front man Steven Gray as well as bassist Ryan Willems.

Finally, don’t forget to catch Wavelets at this year’s FEST 10 in Gainesville. The band will be playing on Friday (10/28) at Bar 1982 with Grown Ups, Spraynard, Go Rydell, Nightmares For A Week and more. For additional information, go here.

SLEEP BELLUM SONNO and RAPID CITIES – On Tour
——————————————————————————–

* Two-week East Coast tour begins today (March 09 – 27)
* Sleep Bellum Sonno’s Judge Us By How We Lived Our Lives … available now
* Rapid Cities’ Machinery Saints available now

——————————————————————————–

Long Island, NY’s Sleep Bellum Sonno and New Brunswick, NJ’s Rapid Cities are set to embark on an East Coast tour together starting today. The two bands are once again playing shows in support of their 2009 full-length albums, Judge Us By How We Lived Our Lives, Not By How We Made Our Living and Machinery Saints, respectively.

The bands will play together from March 9th through the 20th, with Sleep Bellum Sonno continuing on for five more shows.

Sleep Bellum Sonno have composed an ambitious, conceptual record that not only stretches the limits of the artist, but of the listener as well. Recorded live, the album tells the tale of twelve characters who all intertwine into one larger story of a husband / father leaving his wife and two sons behind. To say that Sleep Bellum Sonno’s Judge Us By How We Lived Our Lives, Not By How We Made Our Living is a challenging listen might be an understatement. But for those willing to indulge themselves the riches buried within are plenty.

Listen to “A House Of Spades Stands No Chance Against The Wind (Gambler)” (Free mp3)

Deliberately evoking familiar patterns of hardcore and punk rock tradition, and spitting it out with a conscious, yet subtle control of the unconventional and the dissonant, Rapid Cities accepts the challenge to take the step forward. The resulting art of the band’s debut, Machinery Saints, observes what is pleasurable about today’s living, as well as what is mundane. Rapid Cities are both a breath of fresh air as well as an assurance that truly “progressive” yet enjoyable music is still possible.
