Tomorrow (01/29/11), Grand Rapids, Michigan quartet Ghost Heart will see the release of its stunning debut full-length, The Tunnel, via Friction Records (Bars Of Gold, Bear Versus Shark, La Dispute, Victor! Fix The Sun).

Available on both CD and 12″ vinyl (clear + pink / amber), The Tunnel features accessible yet expansive rock songs that synthesize electronica, American folk, samples, tribal percussion, shoegaze guitar sounds and layered vocals to produce an effect that is at once joyously communal and deeply personal. Ghost Heart’s sound has been described by the Detroit Metro Times as “a little of Animal Collective and Vampire Weekend, only with more heart.” Instantly gratifying in some moments, challenging in others, The Tunnel is a unique listening experience.

To order a copy from Friction, go here. And if you’re in the Grand Rapids area tomorrow night, you can also grab one at Ghost Heart’s record release show at Founders.

In related news, the band recently teamed up with the Halfway House music blog to film three live songs, including two from The Tunnel as well as a brand new track titled “Sick Black Lung.” All three videos from the Halfway House Sessions can be viewed here.

Finally, the song “No Canticle” from the album is available as a free mp3 download here. Additional Ghost Heart media can be found here.

BARS OF GOLD – 12″ Repress / CD Out Now
——————————————————————————–

* Of Gold second pressing out today (10/12) from Friction Records
* CD version of full-length now available as well

——————————————————————————–

Nothing gold can stay … unless of course you’re Bars Of Gold. In that case, your amazing new record gets a second pressing and a shiny new CD treatment, to boot. Hoorray for being awesome!

Of Gold, the debut LP from ex-members of Michigan legends Bear Vs Shark and instrumental noise outfit Wildcatting, gets a welcome repress and release from Friction Records today, October 12th.

Originally issued in late August and limited to 500 12-inches on translucent orange and translucent green vinyl, the second pressing of 1000 is evenly split between four colors: white, translucent light blue, translucent dark green and translucent purple.

Additionally, Of Gold is now available on compact disc. To pick up a copy of whichever format tickles your fancy (including digital) go here.

As the 50th release for Friction Records, Of Gold finds the Detroit quintet exploring wonderfully uncharted territories and embracing elements of soul, garage rock and Americana. Of course, the influence of vocalist Marc Paffi and drummer Brandon Moss’ former outfit Bear Vs Shark can be felt throughout these eight amazing tracks. Simultaneously reckless and creative, Bars Of Gold wraps everything in ragged, pop-tinged bursts of sonic goodness. You won’t just hear these songs in your head – you’ll feel them in the pit of your stomach as the chaotic rumble gives way to a creaky banjo or whirling synths. These are gritty rock anthems for adults: a welcome, rollicking respite from juvenile themes and uninspired songwriting.

Currently Bars Of Gold is streaming three songs from the album on its myspace page, including “The Hustle,” which you can also download here (free mp3).

Friction To Release Bars Of Gold LP

FRICTION To Release Debut LP from BARS OF GOLD
——————————————————————————–

* Of Gold 12″ / Digital out August 24, 2010
* Featuring members of Bear Vs Shark, Wildcatting
* 1st single, “The Hustle,” available on iTunes
* 3 new songs streaming on myspace

——————————————————————————–

Friction Records is pleased to announce that on August 24th, 2010, it will release Of Gold, the debut 12″ from Bars Of Gold.

Featuring former Bear Vs Shark front man Marc Paffi, as well as original BvS drummer Brandon Moss and members of instrumental noise outfit Wildcatting, Bars Of Gold’s overall sound doesn’t fall far from its punk roots. Still, the Michigan five piece manages to branch out into wonderfully uncharted territories, embracing elements of pulsing soul, dirty garage rock and dusty americana.

Regarding a recent Bars Of Gold performance, Detroit’s Metro Times proclaimed, “If Fugazi had David Yow as a front man, but played like they lived off a steady diet of funk and MC5 records they’d sound a lot like this. Wow.”

That’s not a statement to be taken lightly, but then again, neither is Of Gold, which is all at once explosive, contemplative, unpredictable, smooth-yet-caustic and, perhaps just as importantly, downright fun. Limited to a pressing of 500 on opaque orange and translucent green vinyl, this brilliant 12″ features artwork by Paffi and will come with a free download code for all the songs. Pre-orders are scheduled to start at the beginning of August. More details forthcoming, but for now you can grab the album’s first single, “The Hustle,” from iTunes.

The band is currently streaming “The Hustle” and two other new songs on its myspace page as well.

Undoubtedly one of 2010′s most anticipated releases, Of Gold is reckless abandon and creative inspiration wrapped in bouncy, pop-tinged bursts of sonic goodness. It’s fist pumping energy tossed against hip-shaking grooves, tempered by warmly rustic passages and wide open spaces. You won’t just hear these songs in your head – you’ll feel them in the pit of your stomach as the chaotic rumble gives way to a creaky banjo or whirling synths. These are gritty rock anthems for adults; a welcome, rollicking respite from juvenile themes and uninspired songwriting. Don’t miss out on this one, folks.
