Signals Midwest Recording New Album For Tiny Engines

SIGNALS MIDWEST - Recording New Album for Summer Release on Tiny Engines

• New LP coming Summer of 2013 on Tiny Engines
• Latitudes And Longitudes LP 2nd pressing pre-order available now
• March/April shows announced / Band playing Stay Sweet Fest
• New Album Details Coming Soon

——————————————————————————————————

Cleveland, OH’s Signals Midwest is set to begin recording their new LP this weekend. The band will once again record at Bad Racket in Cleveland. The new album is expected to be released this Summer on Tiny Engines (Tigers Jaw, Dikembe, Restorations, Run, Forever). This will be the follow up to Signals Midwest’s highly-acclaimed sophomore album, Latitudes And Longitudes, which came out in the Fall of 2011. The 2nd pressing is now available for Pre-Order.

Frontman Max Stern had this to say about the new record:

I like making records because they’re both a reflection of where a band has been and where they’re at in that particular moment. Geographically, musically, mentally, – the setting and experience come through one way or another. I wrote these songs in a living room in Portland, in a basement in Brooklyn, at a bus station in Tel Aviv, in an attic in Cleveland, and in the back of a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan that may have been pretty much anywhere in the continental United States. Two years to the day after making our last record, we’re going back into the same studio to create something new. Contained within those two years have been incredible highs, crushing lows, long tours, practices, arguments, inside jokes, spectacular views, friends and lovers lost and found, and everything else that life seems to accumulate regardless of whatever the “plan” seems to be. I hope some of that experience shines through on this record, if only just to see where we’re at and where we might end up.

Rarely do you come across a young band that startles you with such inherent quality. While Cleveland, Ohio’s Signals Midwest might be rooted in the ethos of punk rock the band quickly transcends the tag both musically and lyrically on their sophomore album, Latitudes And Longitudes. Paying tribute to the continual growth of legends like Small Brown Bike and Fairweather while echoing the emotional tones of modern bands such as The Menzingers, Signals Midwest provide a unique perspective that resides firmly outside the punk-by-the-numbers formula. Call it post-pop/punk if you will.

Signals Midwest will be playing a few shows in March and April including Stay Sweet Fest in Richmond, VA. The band will hit the road hard this Summer in support of the upcoming LP.

——————————————————————————————————

Welcome Home, the sophomore full-length from Durham, NC rock band Red Collar, is now available for pre-order from Tiny Engines (Tigers Jaw, CSTVT, Look Mexico, Restorations). The 12″ LP will see a June 12, 2012 release date. Also worth noting, all vinyl pre-orders come with an instant mp3 download for the 10-song album. The album is also available for early digital purchase here.

The Welcome Home 12″ vinyl is limited to 500 pressed on three colorways (75 White w/ black swirl 180 gram vinyl / 150 Clear w/ black smoke 180 gram vinyl / 275 Black 180 gram vinyl). All pre-orders will be entered to win a test pressing of the record. There are also vinyl combo packs and vinyl + tee packages available.

You can hear a brand new song, “Choices” on Punknews.org. Also, “American Me” can be heard on Alternative Press as well. The band was recently named as one of Alternative Press’ 100 Bands You Need To Know in 2012 along with fellow Tiny Engines labelmates, Signals Midwest (Issue #285).

Three years in the making, Red Collar’s Welcome Home fulfills the promise of the band’s acclaimed debut full-length, 2009′s Pilgrim. Welcome Home continues the tradition of heart pounding indie punk & roll from the Durham, NC quartet but expands the palette with dynamic results. Red Collar combine the jagged rhythms of DC punk along with the soulful, working class spirit and lyrical bend of bands like The Hold Steady and The Gaslight Anthem. Never shying away from their influences, the band proudly displays the earnestness of Springsteen, the boldness of The Replacements and the swagger of The Clash firmly on their sleeves. All that you know and love about Red Collar remains but Welcome Home opens up into hauntingly beautiful songwriting territory that touches on the timelessness of Americana roots. Red Collar is back and they are better than ever! Welcome home indeed.

Red Collar will be playing Treasure Fest in Charlotte, NC later this month sandwiched in between a show with Less Than Jake and their LP release show in Durham with labelmates Restorations and Signals Midwest. The band will also be playing Death To False Hope Fest in June and are confirmed, once again, for The Fest in Gainesville in October.

BEST PRACTICES: The EP LP 12″ Pre-Order Available Now On TINY ENGINES

——————————————————————————————————

* The EP LP Out June 19, 2012
* Stream full album here
* Upcoming shows / The Fest / Recording soon

——————————————————————————————————

Tiny Engines (Tigers Jaw, CSTVT, Look Mexico, Restorations) welcomed Providence, RI’s Best Practices to its expanding roster earlier this year. The label is excited to announce the band’s debut, The EP LP, is now available for pre-order on one-sided 12″ vinyl. The 12″ will see a June 19, 2012 release date. Also worth noting, all vinyl pre-orders come with an instant mp3 download for the 9-song album. The album is also available for early digital purchase here. You can stream the entire record on Bandcamp.

The The EP LP 12″ vinyl is limited to 500 pressed on three colorways (75 Yellow / 175 Black w/ screened B-side / 250 Translucent Green). All pre-orders will be entered to win a test pressing of the record. There are also vinyl combo packs and vinyl + tee packages available.

Featuring current/former members of Light The Fuse And Run, Wow, Owls!, Weak Teeth and Jesuscentric, Best Practices is a return to the fundamentals of punk rock. On the band’s Tiny Engines debut, The EP LP, the quartet lets loose a whirlwind of (garage power pop) punk fury. Recorded with Will Killingsworth (Orchid, Ampere) at Dead Air Studios, Best Practices pummel their way through 9 songs in 12 glorious minutes. The band comes close to careening off the edge at points but never seem to overtake themselves. Chock full of razor sharp hooks Best Practices lays down a furious gauntlet that is as catchy as it is exhausting. All your left with as The EP LP fires towards the finish line is the feeling that you just want to do it all over again.

Best Practices have some confirmed hometown shows upcoming and will be swinging South down to VA and back up through Philly in August (details to come). The band has also been confirmed for The Fest in Gainesville in October. Also, the band will be heading back into Dead Air Studios in late June/early July to record new material. Stay tuned!

THE FAKE BOYS New Full-Length Out Today From ANIMAL STYLE RECORDS

Pig Factory: Available now on vinyl + digital
Punknews.org: Full-album stream
Alternative Press: Video Premier – “Realest World
• U.S. Tour w/ Light Years: April 07 – 28

——————————————————————————–

Pig Factory – the debut full-length from Lowell, MA’s The Fake Boys – is officially out today (03/27) on Animal Style Records (Mixtapes, Hold Tight!, Kite Party, Born Without Bones). The label has issued the album on digital and 12″ LP formats, with the latter being limited to 500 on copies on black (100) and translucent pink (400) colorways.

Recorded and produced by Jay Maas (Have Heart, Title Fight, Transit, Polar Bear Club) at Getaway Recording in Wakefield, MA, the album is the trio’s second long-player and the follow-up to This Is Where Our Songs Live, as well as several EPs and split releases. You can check out The Fake Boys’ back catalog on Bandcamp.

To celebrate today’s release, Animal Style and The Fake Boys have teamed up with Punknews.org for a full-length stream. To listen to Pig Factory in its entirety, go here. You can also stream the record via Bandcamp.

Additionally, Alternative Press has premiered a brand new video for the song “Realest World.” To watch it, click here.

Caught somewhere between the warm, fuzzy hooks of The Smoking Popes, The Descendent’s urgency and aggression, Chavez’s skewed dynamics and the unique melodicism of Jawbreaker, Pig Factory is an undeniably fun, unexpected ride that’s teeming with buzz-saw guitars and a seemingly never-ending supply of sing-along moments. The Fake Boys understand how to evoke the nostalgia of 90′s power-pop and indie rock while diving into modern punk’s pool of tension and ferocity.

Finally, The Fake Boys will be embarking on a month-long tour of the U.S. in support of the new record beginning on April 7th. The outfit will be joined by Kent, OH’s Light Years. As always, if you’d like to attend a show or speak with the band, drop me a line here. You can also contact me for a link to an EPK which includes a full mp3 download of the album.

Slated for a November 15, 2011 release, the 11-song effort (track listing below) was produced by Nick Bellmore (Make Do and Mend, Hatebreed, Death Threat) and will be issued on CD, digital and 12″ LP formats, with the latter being limited to 500 copies on red (100), purple (200) and blue (200) colored vinyl. Stay tuned for pre-order info within the next few weeks.

To celebrate today’s announcement Animal Style and Wolves At Bay have teamed up with Absolute Punk to debut the song “I Have Nothing Left To Offer.” To stream this exclusive track, go here. Additionally, you can grab The Night A Forest Grew, a digital EP released by the label in August as a free / name-your-price download.

Formerly known as Dear You, Wolves At Bay treads similar progressive punk waters as bands such as Small Brown Bike, Balance And Composure and Make Do And Mend. The quartet builds its songs on a unique foundation of raw enthusiasm and intensity tempered only by a tireless work ethic and thoughtful composition, and Only A Mirror impresses with driving rhythms, gruff-yet-tuneful melodies and dynamic songwriting chops. Prepare yourself for an impressive debut teaming with hard-charging punk anthems, engaging instrumental passages and an overall sense of urgency and purpose.

Limited to a pressing of 500 7-inches on white (100) and black (400) vinyl, the split features two of Canada’s best and brightest DIY punk bands tearing through four fist-pumping, high-energy, rough-and-tumble yet relentlessly catchy anthems. All four songs were mastered by John Naclerio (Polar Bear Club, My Chemical Romance). A complete track list is below.

It’s also worth noting that both bands have 2009 EPs (released on the same day, coincidentally) on Juicebox which you can download for free … or donate of course, if you’re so inclined. Check out Prevenge’s It Happens All The Time and Magnets from Dig It Up.

An exclusive stream of Hope Is For People is now up at Punknews.org. To listen to the record in its entirety, go here. You can grab a free mp3 for the title track as well.

Showing no signs of slowing down any time soon, the Mixtapes kids have cranked out yet another concise blast of highly infectious, perfectly blended power pop, ’90s indie rock and gritty punk. Hope Is For People comes on the heels of the band’s last 7″ on Animal Style, A Short Collection of Short Songs, and finds the quartet focusing more on bouncy, driving anthems and less on the introspective offers … although this new EP still retains that signature Mixtapes earnestness that endeared the band to us in the first place. Any way you slice it, Mixtapes occupies a rare space in punk rock where honestly and serious musicianship collide with a sweet disposition and a real sense that having fun should be a big part of the equation.

HALF HEARTED HERO – Pre-Order Running Water 12″
——————————————————————————–

* Vinyl out 04/05/11 from Animal Style Records
* Album now streaming exclusively at Absolutepunk.net
* Download “Periphery” (free mp3)

——————————————————————————–

Running Water, the upcoming six-song 12″ from Half Hearted Hero (New Bedford, MA) is now available for pre-order from Animal Style Records (Thrice, Mixtapes, Transit, After The Fall, Daggermouth).

Limited to a pressing of 500 on three colorways (100 orange-red marble / 200 opaque olive green / 200 brown), the vinyl will see an official street date of April 05, 2011. For more info go here.

To celebrate the pre-order, Animal Style and Half Hearted Hero have teamed up with Absolutepunk.net to offer an exclusive stream of Running Water. To listen to the record in its entirety, go here.

Additionally, you can download a free mp3 for the song “Periphery” at the label’s bandcamp page.

Recorded by Half Hearted Hero guitarist Clinton Lisboa and mastered by Jason Livermore at The Blasting Room (Rise Against, A Wilhelm Scream, Propagandhi), Running Water is the follow-up to the band’s 2009 full-length, Defining. Refining. This latest effort finds the Massachusetts quintet blasting through six cuts of infectious and introspective pop punk while wielding a razor-sharp edge and reveling in a much grittier tone than its peers. With ample energy and hooks galore, Half Hearted Hero tips its proverbial cap to contemporaries such as Transit and The Starting Line, but it also explores varying tempos and unique song structures, giving nods to punk torchbearers such as Small Brown Bike and The Fullblast.

One last note – if you’re anywhere near Massachusetts’ South Coast this Friday, Half Hearted Hero will be playing its record release show at the Highlander in Acushnet. To see the flyer, go here.

Tin Horn Prayer – On Tour

TIN HORN PRAYER – West Coast / Southwest Tour Begins On Thursday (02/24 – 03/05)
——————————————————————————————————

* In support of debut LP Get Busy Dying on Bermuda Mohawk Productions
* Free mp3s, streams, samplers and more!
* New songs recorded with Chris Fogal of The Gamits

——————————————————————————————————

Beginning this Thursday (Feb 24) Tin Horn Prayer will embark on ten-day tour of the West Coast and Southwest in support of its new full-length, Get Busy Dying.

Featuring ex-members of The Blackout Pact, Only Thunder, Ghost Buffalo, Love Me Destroyer and Pinhead Circus, the Denver, CO band’s debut effort is now available on both vinyl and digital formats from Bermuda Mohawk Productions. The recently released LP version of the record – which features sweet black-on-black UV jackets – can be purchased from the label here or you can grab a copy from the band on tour.

The concept of combining the gruffness and intensity of punk with Americana and frontier-based folk has been toyed with for many years within the indie rock scene, but very few have blended the two sounds as well as Tin Horn Prayer. Soulful and chalk-full of whiskey-soaked narratives, Get Busy Dying carves out ten unique cuts that nod toward Lucero, Tom Waits and Murder By Death, but also stay true to the band members’ post-punk roots. If you’ve ever wondered what it would sound like if the Lawrence Arms and Uncle Tupelo got into a bar fight, look no further than this amazing record. Get Busy Dying is as much a dark, deeply personal affair as it is a rowdy, undeniably fun time.

Get Busy Dying is currently streaming in its entirety at Punknews.org and Bandcamp. You can also download a free mp3 for the song “1939″ here. While you’re at it, check out this great interview (also featuring an album stream) with band member Andy Thomas at AMP Magazine.

Additionally, Bermuda Mohawk recently celebrated its 50th release with a free digital comp featuring 27 songs from Cheap Girls, One Win Choice, imadethismistake, Carpenter and Mixtapes amongst others. Tin Horn Prayer kicks off the sampler with the track “Better Living.” Download all the goodness here.

Finally, it’s worth noting that Tin Horn Prayer just finished recording four new songs at Black In Bluhm Music with Chris Fogal of The Gamits. Fogal also recorded and produced Get Busy Dying. More details regarding the fate of those tracks soon!

As always, if you’d like to attend a show or speak with the band, drop me a line here.
